Averse Sefira

Averse Sefira

Black metal from Texas that fuses the Norse style of epic poetic songs with the more feral, aggressive, primal riffing of early 1990s death/black metal.

From "Battle's Clarion":

From "Homecoming's March":

Ahh, It was an awesome experience to see them play live. Especially "Battle's Clarion."

This has easily been the best black metal band in recent memory.

Ahh, It was an awesome experience to see them play live. Especially "Battle's Clarion."

Too bad I live in New Jersey.

Indeed, the August 28th show was amazing. The new material they previewed sounds extremely promising, wading off into the experimentation first hinted at on Battle's Clarion.

Hopefully I'll be able to book Averse Sefira in 2005. Perhaps for an Austin show this time. Anyone know why that San Antonio show never happened? I heard it was postponed, but I never saw it rescheduled.

You are all too gracious- thank you.
In case you haven't see it already, here's the promo ad for the new album:

- Recording commences February 2005.
- Nine all new tracks, over 60 minutes of material.
- Engineered and produced by Necromorbus .
- Release in summer 2005 on Evil Horde Records, Brazil.

Titles include:
Sonance Innumberate
Transitive Annihilation
Helix In Audience
The Hierophant Disgorging

More news soon.

And no, there will not be a San Antonio show. The people looking to set it up proved to be incompetents. We do want, however, to play an Austin show in January and play the new album in its entirety. A "live preview" if you will.  I expect the appropriate ETM people will contact me about this soon.

Are you guys going to be heading over here to Southern California when you finally tour?  I haven't caught a good show around here for some time, it's been so dry.  Can't wait to hear what sounds you guys come out with, keep up the good work.

we've actually had several invitations that evaporate as soon as we inquire about plane fare. We simply cannot pay for that kind of thing ourselves anymore (or will not, more correctly).  I think a west coast excursion would be agreeable in the end, but it always takes a back seat to playing Europe or South America. Living in the US and being in a band such as ours means time and money are often in short supply and unfortunately it demands that we choose tours that will have the largest impact in the smallest space of time. If they do that festival like the one where Dark Funeral headlined previously, we might consider coming out for that.

That's all definitely understandable.  It really amazes me that acts in an underground setting are able to pull themselves to tour outside of their homeland, period, especially when some of the funds, if not most of them, have to come from their own pockets, it must not be easy but I’m sure the thrill of making the music and playing it negates the negatives.  Hopefully you will make it out here but this area really hasn't been friendly to metal bands such as yours lately it would seem, many people are stuck on the bandwagon tripe.

ah, good to know (and much of what I expected). Seems that the California scene is steeped in apathy just like everywhere else in the US. Also, we don't really need to deal with weekender bands who have had their egos inflated on FMP and think that it has global application. I'm not indicting anyone in particular, it just seems like it would turn out that way.

In the US we really only play fests, if that. We have an open invitation to the New England Festival and we may perform there again. But again, if they do another  fest with a notable line-up we might  make an appearance.

I liked Battles' Clarion a lot. I can't say it's ground braking; it emulates some of the old elements of black metal but not in an copy&paste style. It's more like celebratory bm.

I can't understand what's with those really long ambients intros on Homecoming's March though.

I'm looking forward to listening to the latest album.
