In all seriousness, I don't think it's going to be DOOMSDAY. It will be a bit more difficult to get by if you're a welfare parasite. In the case of welfare mooches though, you should look into guns and other means of self-defense, because some people believe in equality to the point where it means killing you for the things they never had.

Silver prices are going up, buy, buy, buy! Then when they peak, sell, sell, sell!
Perhaps holding your money and assets in another currency offshore or something will help too. Buy a fat stack of Euros or some other currency that's not bound to fall right now, and exchange them for dollars later, as needed.

Honestly though, take all of that with a grain of salt because I'm not too keen on finance and investing.

It's going to be a slow death, in all likelihood.  As such, one should just keep oneself generally prepared.  Fire-arms are normally what I'd call a cowards' way of combat, but it's not cowardly in this case to be able to actually defend yourself from someone else who has them.  Also, people should be forming support networks with people they trust, grouping together to more efficiently survive, and wait out the storm.  There will likely be a slow coming apart of the countries in North America, and if this is true, I'm sure this is the sort of chance many people have been waiting for, for good or ill.

"Financial Meltdown" is just a newspaper headline. Anarchy is fortunately (or maybe unfortunately, an entirely different discussion) not on its way.
But maybe the uncertainty injected into Western society by economic recession will provide a stimulus for future metal musicians? This is probably stupid: Norway in 1990 was probably the most stable and secure society ever to have existed; tolerant too.
