King Crimson - Red

King Crimson - Red

King Crimson moved retrograde to the tendency to dumb down the medium into image and trivial yet novel variations on accepted form, and with Red the band reached a climax, fusing simplicity with a need for subliminal elegance and a finding a transcendental recognition of the relative balance between structure and content, fulfilling the prophetic words of Ornette Coleman: "The pattern for a tune, for instance, will be forgotten and the tune itself will be the pattern."

In some ways, it's somewhat more rockish (probably more in aesthetics than anything, and I'm probably thinking most of the song, "One More Red Nightmare") than say, "In The Court of The Crimson King", however, the actual music is excellent, one of the heights of progressive rock, and has an excellent title track, I loved the shifting tonality of the opening melody.

While rock music rarely tickles my fancy King Crimson have been a band that have been blasted through my stereo at a steady pace since I first discovered them.
