I love Electric Wizard because they present a cartoon extremity of fatalism as metaphor for the desperation one often feels at living in modern times. They are a band that has spirit. The whole marijuana thing is done with much comedy and at a deeper level - if one should even attempt to intellectualise such a band - i guess in a track like "weird tales" they present a kind of Foucaultian "insane truth" of reason in casting Marijuana as a gateway to a kind of Dionysian realm of amorality and ghastly demonic Lovecraftian chaos completely at odds with the bustle of consumerist society. “The sound that should not be,” perhaps.
(Actually don’t tell anyone but I think Lovecraft is a horrible writer)
I guess mostly I like them because they are a fun, witty band and sometimes make me laugh. I don't really think it's fair to lump them in with the Spirit Caravans and Eyehategods of the world. Besides, the opening to Funerolopolis is known as ‘the riff of goodwill’ at least round these parts.
