Examiner.com is like about.com used to be: it hires local experts, and pays them, to write about what's happening in their home towns. It's a fairly large and well-recognized site with a lot of people reading.

They need Metal Music Examiners, which if it turns out to be you, could be a forum for you to promote the good metal and ignore the bad. Think about the influence you could have on both your local scene and mainstream media.

Here's how to become one:

1. Go to:

2. Find "Select your City" under the Examiner logo, and use that menu to select your city name.

3. On your city page, look for the "WRITE FOR US" link on the right hand side, then find "Browse Available Opportunities" under "Examiner.com is looking for writers!" header.

4. Under "Examiners we're seeking today", click "Arts and Entertainment".

5. Scroll down until you see "(Your City) Metal Music Examiner"

6. Click Apply. There is a one-page application form.

If we had twenty Hessians doing this across America, we'd gain a lot of media attention.

This seems like it would be an excellent opportunity to promote quality metal, what with the new Beherit album just seeing release, and tours from Absu/Averse Sefira, Atheist, Master, and others on the horizon this summer.

Indeed, I have to fax in some forms to them yet. Other than that they've already created my account at the epicenter website, which is what they do their posting through.

Heard back from them, but it turns out that I won't be in Nashville for the summer after all, so I had to decline.

Seems like their hiring standards are pretty lax,  so as long as you are a semi-competent writer with some kind of online portfolio for them to look over, the job is easily attainable.

Unfortunately there is no metal scene to speak of where I'll be spending the summer, so I'm not much good to the site.

They don't care if you actually live in the city; all you have to do is report about it. So you could use your hometown. All the information you need is online. Also, they like general metal articles, like reviews:
