Trying to interface with some geeks and have been bringing up the topic of metal with cyberpunkish themes.

Obviously:

* Voivod
* Obliveon
* Impaled Nazarene

There have to be more. Am I missing any?

Darkspace, Mysticum and Nocturnus come to mind, but I don't know if they are exactly cyberpunk. Even Judas Priest had this robot, futurism, space synthesis at times? Oxiplegatz?

Zyklon-B always reminded me of dark cyber music done in a very metal style.

I find a lot of the weaker metal bands play to the cyberpunk/transhuman crowd. White Zombie, Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad...
There are some good ones who tend to show their inspirations musically and not in their stage make-up - Ministry, Godflesh.

And didn't a lot of the nu-metal b(r)ands use the cyber- fashions to try and win over the gothic discoteque fanbase as well as the metalheads?

If you got much further than Ministry you find you're into non-metal territory with bands like NIN or Rammstein. But i think there is nothing wrong with a metal band with cyber leanings, the above mentioned being good examples of this.

Would you count grind bands with electronic music influences? Drogheda is gabber-influenced nihilistic political stuff, and Catasexual Urge Motivation make great use of diSEMBOWELMENT/Blood-style doomy grind riffs over electro beat structures.

Alien Crucifixion
Insane technical death/cybergrind. Obscure band, not on M-A for lacking a physical release but you can buy an mp3 version of their album from itunes or amazon. A bit of a jokeband, the members claim to have been abducted by aliens themselves, but they fit the bill I guess.

Also Darkthrone!

Carbonized's 'For the security' was the first thing that came to mind.

Cyberpunk: did you mean digital hardcore or cybergrind? Industrial metal? Breakcore?

Breakcore: Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin's Drukqs album? Definitely not this.

Industrial-ish: Big Black,  Godflesh, Swans? Beherit?

Digital Hardcore/Cybergrind: Curse of the Golden Vampire (one of J. Broadrick's sideprojects)
