A logical inversion is when you take an argument from cause to effect, and argue from effect to cause.
Instead of saying, "I'm going to eat this so I can be healthy," you say "I want to look healthy, so I'll be seen eating this."
Inversions only occur in a social context because in order to switch effect/cause, you need to create an intermediate state of motivation which makes it more important for effects to be seen as causes. This is invariably manipulating other people by showing them how cool you are.
See where this is going?
Many people hate this forum. Most of them, about 75%, are butthurt ARE YOU TALKIN TO ME?/O-peth fans who want metal to be everyone's happy fun time party with no standards, no goals and no rules. They like the idea that they can project themselves into it and get out of it what they want, which is usually social standing, a friend group, a justification for existing and other tiresome shit like that.
The remaining 25% have good reason to hate this forum and I agree with them. They see it as a place where inverted logic is king, where people are highly critical and elitist just to hear themselves talk and appear intelligent to others. In their minds, it's a bunch of Aspies showing off to each other, and is conflatable with what the butthurt ARE YOU TALKIN TO ME?/O-peth fans are doing.
In this life, you either do things for inward motivation -- cause to effect -- or you do them to be seen.
The former will get you criticism from inverted people, but in the long term, you will be respected. The latter will get you temporary social standing, waste your time and everyone else's, and after a suitable interval, be forgotten as the irrelevant bratty behavior it is.
I've known for years how most forums get dominated by loudmouths, who are alpha males online but are submissive people for whom life didn't turn out as cool as they imagined it, in real life. They tend to have the most extreme opinions because they want to look the most extreme and they don't intend to do anything.
The life of this site is people like Doug Vance, Alex Birch, Obscura Hessian, Devamitra, "Steve Harris", Prozak and most of all Kontinual, because they act on their ideas and make them happen. They're not here to pose. I think that deserves respect and, if we're serious about what we say, we should stop the posing here and get on with the metal.
All IMHO and not relevant, necessarily, to any other forum drama. I really do love you all, but love doesn't mean letting bad/stupid behavior slide.
