Growth of the Soil by Knut Hamsun

Thanks for posting this. There's a few Hamsun titles on this website that I've wanted to read for a long time but couldn't find anywhere.

"These brave Canadians dreamed and created some of the most emblematic progressive metal ever after a start in rough, raw and chaotic punk/metal tunes."

These are the same people who dyed their hair green and listened to Green Day and The Offsping when I was in high school. They want to be different so bad.

Most of all though, I want to know who the legend was.  Who was it?!   :(

Glen Danzig?

They should be on Solid State Records.  :-X

I suspect many closet Christians amongst metal fans and metal bands.

From what I saw it was mainly the bi-curious emo type and simple minded people who just listed to rock music and top 40 stuff on the radio.

The Deathspell Omega hype intrigued me somewhat and I gave it a few listens then deleted it from my hard drive. Though it's better than emo-black metal like Leviathan.

I like early Suicidal Tendencies, way before Mike Muir became Cyco Myko.

I was in high school in the early 1990's when Green Day exploded and overnight all the kids started dying their hair green and wearing Rancid shirts. It was fucked up. Those kids would have never survived a real Punk/Hardcore show, like ST on the Join the Army tour.

Using sexuality to market your gay music. Nice. And I thought I could not get any dumber than the Insane Clown Posse...guess not.

Someone needs to tell this wigger to bite the fucking curb.....

Metal / Re: Why Local Bands Fail

The people I have known in local bands have failed in part because they were lazy. They were not willing to isolate or discipline themselves to excel. And they were clueless with the organizational/business aspect of it. They would have failed at anything they did.

Aquarius records out of SF are also very fond of black metal, surprising for an "alternative" record store.

I wonder when Der Katalog will be released.

Besides Neptune Towers and the ambient albums from Burzum, Ildjarn, and Beherit, I've always thought that some of the best "black ambient" music are some individual tracks from Black Metal albums. 'Summerlands' from Drawing Down the Moon and 'Prolog' from The Celtic Winter come to mind.
