Metal / Re: Aidspell Omega Embrace Traditionalism?
« on: August 06, 2012, 09:46:25 AM »
I'd like some insight on why Deathspell Omega is so hated here. When I listen to the music it just seems like your average 2010s post-black metal band. I don't listen to their music and I don't see it anywhere near original black metal, however it seems to at least be played well, and has much more depth than even nu immortal or nu mayhem can claim. (I know that doesn't make it good music.) Sometimes it seems like anti-hype backlash, but as far as I know, Deathspell Omega don't play live shows, give interviews, or really promote themselves.

Is there something about DsO that makes them worse than mediocre metal?

When too many college kids take liberal arts classes they begin to create bullshit theories like this instead of ones that actual progress mankind. I fail to see the point in pushing millions of kids to major in fields that have no relevance in today's society: everything from Women's Studies to Criminology. I suppose it's all about the cash that colleges make.

Just hearing about windows 8 makes me never wanting to switch away from linux.

Metal / Subjective vs objective? Contradiction?
« on: June 29, 2012, 08:31:21 AM »
I've been on this site for about a year now and my taste has moved away  from all the metal I used to listen to. Now I listen to Classical, Classic rock, Kraftwerk etc.

How does a site take from saying that all values are meaningless (Nihilism) to saying that one form of art is objectively better than another. (for example Romantic Classical compared to Power Metal). It would seem that from active nihilism we would have to say that nothing is objectively better. However, with more study and focus, one can derive more aesthetic pleasure from one composer compared to another. If this were true, then how could one say that an album of popular music is bad? One person may study it and listen to extensively and gain a lot of meaning from it (such as the metal newcomer listening to Pink Frothy AIDS). Is it because it would sound boring/bad to the trained ear? Is there something beyond the self enjoyment one can gain from music and there is something in the music itself? Am I missing the point?

I am curious to hear other people's opinions towards jazz music as art.

I'm talking about Charles Mingus, late John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, and Andrew Hill.

No wonder governments use belief in hell (Strict Religion) as a way to control their people.

I'd like to see an example of an M + N type.

In the end I find it better to just ignore and forget that indie black metal OR pop black metal even exists. I can't think of anyone in real life who even listens to black metal (none of my metalhead friends)...

The only place I even hear about WITTR are from those on the DLA complaining about it. However I don't think hipster black metal will ever reach Dimmu stasis. I agree that it's on its way out; glam metal died, nu metal died, it's a matter of time until most other useless metal/rock combinations die too.

Hipster/Indie Metal is still better and more innovative than your average run of the mill melodic black or melodic death.

I'd rather listen to WITTR and Leviathan than Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth. (And you're 100 times more likely to find the later than the former at a mall/walmart.

If you're not into metal, you are not my friend

I find most metalheads to be awful because they usually only listen to shitty music or ONLY listen to heavy metal. Some of the stupider metalheads won't be caught dead listening to classical.

Global Warning and Overpopulation alerts are leftist propaganda. It's nothing more than fear-based news that gets more website hits, more government money, and more views on television.

I don't really feel like debunking all those articles but I'm not sure if you're pointing out how liberal journalism is all about panic or if you're going along with fear-based news.

The first one on that list can be easily solved by switching to Linux. When you stop buying Microsoft/Apple and start using a system that isn't prove to viruses/malware, then you don't have to worry about the government/hackers getting into your system.

2nd one isn't happen in our lifetime.

If you're serious about the 3rd one, you can start farming in with local community/or start buying more food at farmer's market. You're right about this one.

Decentralisation won't change the ability of a "government flu" to spreading to local communities such as amish, it will just take longer.

And what about electronic/IDM

Tangerine Dream
Jean-Michel Jarre
Dead Can Dance

add Lord Wind if you really want to put I think Kraftwerk is more imporant.

This in itself it the fault of most people who feel "oppressed" or "offended". They feel that they automatically deserve attention, when in essence they deserve to be ignored.

I learned by being the weird kid at school, and now and probably always I will not care for popularity. Sad thing is that many parts of real life DO end up being a popularity contest.
