Metal / Re: There has never been a better time

Why now? I got really into movies about 5 years ago, Tarkovsky, Bergman, and Fellini are what changed my mind about the value of the medium. All have the ability to tap into and illustrate human introspection, and portray deeply flawed characters without making them champions or archetypes. There is much Dostoevsky in this kind of filmmaking.

Also, these three are rare due to their mostly apolitical approach. Many great auteurs muck up their work with outdated leftist political cliches. But some politically-motivated directors are still worth the time (Renoir, Bunuel, etc).

We have rampant kranksters up north, but as a far northerner, it's hard for me to consider the bay area to be Northern CA.

I live in Jefferson State where liberals are mocked and spit upon. The west coast is NOT poisoned yet.

Currently listening to this for the first time, and it sounds like a true return to form for the band. Brings back the ancient classical European feel that for me has been lost since Aion. Possibly one of the better albums of the decade so far.

Metal / Re: Lord Wind - Ales Stenar

Possibly my favorite Lord Wind release so far. Ales Stenar makes me that much more excited for the new Graveland. Darken is someone that the metal community should exalt.

Definitely would like to know of some good martial industrial. Any recommendations?

Right now, the dark ambient that we know to be of good quality from that list is as follows: Maeror Tri, Brian Eno, Aghast, Beherit, Ildjarn, Burzum, Neptune Towers, Tangerine Dream, Mortiis. All of these are A-grade, barring Fenriz' girlfriend's band Aghast which is B-.

I'm going to start investigating some other names which aren't associated with metal.

Italian Westerns are particularly nihilistic. Besides the obvious Dollars trilogy, Death Rides a Horse and The Great Silence are fantastic.

Night of the Living Dead is the ultimate nihilist film opus.

Any fans of The Deer Hunter around here?

Do you feel the same way about theatre?

The greatest works of art of the 20th century are probably Fritz Lang's Metropolis, Die Mensch-Maschine and To the Depths... In Degradation.

Metal / Re: Good electronic music

Nothing to my liking in there.

B grade darkwave.

A+ sublime neoclassical music.

The best electronic music for some reason always ends up being ambient.

I'd love to see the ANUS main site start to do in depth book reviews reminiscent of the metal reviews and some of the book reviews that used to be on Corrupt.

What's the consensus on early Pungent Stench around here?

Italian Westerns have the same spirit as early black and death metal.

It was one of the girls from Aghast if I remember correctly. I think Fenriz's girlfriend at the time.
