Metal / Re: Best metal releases of 2013 thus far?
« on: March 30, 2013, 10:24:59 PM »
Check out Sacriphyx's The Western Front. Relatively new and incredibly unique band from Australia playing somewhere in between the old school Greek style and Grand Belial's Key.
They have have also done a split with DLA favourites Resuscitator although their best material is from the 2009 split they did with StarGazer. I haven't heard the new album as of yet but based on their previous output I think it will easily be one of the years best.

Metal / Re: Bands worth hearing thread
« on: January 19, 2013, 05:35:06 PM »Arghoslent represents the minority of melodic death metal artists that haven't forgotten about the death part. They combine the "war machine" rhythm of mid-era Bolt Thrower into the "heavy metal" melodic stylings of Dissection/Sacramentum.
They can be compared to another excellent artist, Infester(some of the most doomed death metal ever) in a way that the racist overtones of their lyrics have made them an outsider artist, arousing polarized opinions.

He seems to offer some good advice and ideas for introverts, but lets get real here: this is the guy who claims he can determine with 99% accuracy your level of “thal” ancestry just by looking at a photo of your face.
This based on emotional reasoning rather than anything cool headed and logical.
For instance, I only have a basic understanding of evolutionary biology but can still tell you this is pulled straight from his ass:
“As a result, they evolved into r-strategists, favoring promiscuity and low-investment parenting as a reproductive strategy….
sexual dimorphism was relatively nonexistent because fathers rarely invested in their offspring, forcing women to pick up the slack; higher-order thinking was almost entirely absent.”
In reality K selected species exhibit minimal sexual dimorphism (eg: swans) whereas R selected species usually have dramatic dimorphism (baboons).
To me Koanic Soul's system is basically Scientology for introverts.

Metal / Re: 'One Man Metal' documentary -- Xasthur comes out the closet
« on: November 15, 2012, 07:31:33 AM »Meh, Xasthur doesnt seemd weird, he seems like he is an overgrown teenager living on welfare......From what I gather, he never matured past the "nobody understands me" phase of adolescence.
There is nothing romantic about the solitary lifestyles of these individuals. They are not Victor Frankensteins, they are emo autists.
Yes. The doc is more about bad life decisions than it is about music.

Despite the hipster hype, Xasthur's "Telepathic with the Deceased" truly is a great album. I would rank it one level below Joined in Darkness. Everything after that got shockingly boring.

Metal / Re: Wishlist for new SUMMONING album
« on: September 18, 2012, 01:17:32 AM »
Looks like the new SUMMONING reccord is well on its way for a release in 2013:
Quote
We now have finished the composing and selection process of the songs for the new albums (7 songs and one intro). All songs that did not find the way to the album will hopefully be released on future limited releases. In the next months we will record the already composed guitar lines and work on the lyrical concept of the album.
We also collected some paintings for the new album and will work on the visual concept from now on. We hope to be finished with everything untill the end of the year, so that the album can be released by Napalm Records in the first quater of the year 2013.
We also have the news from Napalm Records that in the end of this year there will be a vinyl release of some older Summoning releases. More details soon.

That has to be the most unintentionally funny decline of a death metal band I've ever heard of.
...Morbid Angel.
For whatever reason, the Finnish regional scene went to much higher levels of fagotry than any other. EX: Finntroll, Ensiferum, Turisas, COB.

A week from now you will be kicking yourself over how easy it was and wondering why you didn't do it sooner....
