I do. It's just absolutely crap.

Sometimes I'll come up with something I see as brilliant but I can't put any direction to it, and with a lot of my good-flowing music the actual riffs are just crap.

But then of course I know nothing about music at all

I guess I need to have a good think about this. Next year I'll be finished high school and I'll be taking a break year in Vanuatu (the idea is to get away from society), but after that I really don't know.

I don't think this would gain ANY momentum where I live; there are virtually zero metalheads in my town, they fliers would probably just be torn down. Oh well, worth a shot.

But what if you are Prozak?

Shut up Prozak. Us parts of Prozak's mind (all of us) must work together otherwise this forum will look as if it's falling apart.

The basics usually are

Burzum - Hvis Lyett Tar Oss
Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger
Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse

If you like atmosphere you could also try some ambient or dark ambient music, for example Burzum's album Hlidskjalf.

There's a really epic one I heard randomly a few years ago that I'm hoping I'll rediscover. It sounded awesome, like the mad bastard child of Slipknot and Cradle of Filth.

And this would constitute a good song why?

As for my song:

Phobophile - Cryptopsy

Mason, 15, Australian. Found this forum through a Google search for a metal band... and out of pure coincidence I happened to wholeheartedly agree with the (majority of) views expressed on this site. I didn't even know what nihilism was until I found this place. My favourite music is the typical for this website; black metal, death metal, a bit of speed/heavy metal. Not too far into classical but I hope to get myself further into that, I had completely dismissed it before I read up on it through this forum. I play bass and drums but I'm not spectacular. In the future I hope to be able to 'break off' from society and form my own independent life, but for now that's a pipe dream considering I still have a fair bit of my education to go.

Seems pretty good to me. Luc hasn't me down thus far and it still seems like he hasn't... I think I hear a bit of Marston's influence in it but it isn't all too bad.

Hmm. I never really thought about that. I can't see any reason why it should be wrong.. I always thought the 'manlier' musicians had much more of a stage personality (Hetfield compared to Hammett)
