People claim to have an open mind towards music as an excuse to listen to rubbish. Being "closed minded" is preferable.

I dont buy that. Me for example, my favorite death metal albums are, Dying Fetus - killing on, Suffocation - Effigy, Spawn of Possession - Cabinet, Cephalotomy - Eclipsing, and Dungortheb - intended too. Now it may not be Tzun Tzu or Pathology Stench (I like musical tallent over obscurity, sorry). But I think my taste in death metal is pretty good for someone who listens to crust, punk, hindi, rap, pop, jazz, arabic, techno, and ambient. Why should close mindedness be preferable if having good taste in one style has allowed me to find the emmotional fix I get with DM with various forms of music?

Why do people praise this album? While not quite as shallow, to me, it seems like a step in the direction of "Sellout of the Soul"...especially after an album like "With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness". I'm inclined to leave it to The Haunted fans along with their "masterpiece".  In analyzing the downfall of this once-great band, it makes sense:  "Terminal Sellout Disease" is the diagnosis and "Sellout of the Soul" is the end(death).

I see music belongs to you right? Fuck off you close minded, uninformed sloth. You give metal heads a band name.

Fuck capitalism...

Why did they start this label in the first place? I bet it wasn't for capitalistic reasons...no one really starts an extreme metal label to get rich! I think the old folks at CM have lost sight of why they're doing what they do.

Yeah, I'll sign too!

The government should nationalize the distribution systems of all the majors and allow all forms of music and spoken word. Dstribute the music all over the planet so even some kid in Siberia can listen to Psycroptic, NWA and folkloric music of Tunisia by going to one store.

Metal / Re: Pantera's hair metal past

After "Cowboys From Hell," Pantera did their best to hide the record of their three earlier self-produced hair metal albums, on which they pranced around in lipstick, hairspray, latex and (frequently) women's clothing including underwear. Most people in Dallas thought they were completely retarded for this behavior. After hearing some Exhorder, and Prong, and Metallica, new frontman Phil Anselmo -- who admits he is bisexual and uses heroin regularly -- updated the Pantera sound to be rougher and, in keeping with that image, they had to ditch the hairnets and facial cream. However, you can still hear overtones of their forgotten past in their later music. Knowing that these pictures and sounds would ruin Pantera's carefully crafted "toughguy" image, their record company has bought up any copies of these records they could find and sued anyone caught selling them. The CD you're about to hear, I am the Night, was the peak of Pantera's hair metal era. When you listen to their more recent albums from this point on, you'll find yourself wondering if they really changed... or just got better at hiding the queerness.

First, who cares? And you described about 95% of the bands out in the 80's. Have you seen vinny pauls ladys underwear under those latex pants? If you have then you are gay. If you havn't, how do you know? Were you there? Wow Pantera were glam I had no idea. WOWOWOW Hey guess what? You might not know this but... Bush is a crappy president! Just thought I'd let you know incase you didn't. Oh yeah rap sucks too. And bigfoot isn't real. Just thought you should know a few things that have no political, philosophical or intellectual bearing to this board.

I am no Pantera fan. I just think its gay to be so 'cool' and bash Pantera after he died because you see everyone is so sad over what happened. Your such a rebel. wow so cool...

Good!  Then let's make it so that it is harder to find the few gemes among the feces because people need to make money!  Because its capitalism!  Yes!

All I'm getting at is they don't give a fuck anymore when there is money to be made. Plus online petitions dont do a thing.

Century Media, like many labels, once signed metal bands that were more than mere entertainment; they were artistic music groups that attempted to communicate truths of real meaning to those living and listening in our time.

Following the rise of Century Media to corporate status, the label has increasingly begun signing bands for their popularity and consequently, the quality of new music from the label has declined and nu-metal, emo-influenced metal has become the norm.

We beseech Century Media to realize that in the long term, signing quality metal will help them cultivate a dedicated and distinct audience and stand them in better economic health than being one more label putting out a steady stream of soulless acts that are a mishmash of metal, hardcore, rap and rock and sell _at first_ but fade quickly in popularity because they are recombinant and interchangeable.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned

CM wrote in wondering about some MP3 samples on the web site, so Arminass and I decided to have some fun. Be polite. Who knows? Maybe they'll even wake up and see that what I say is true, and truth about their financial futures.

What real metal is, is subjective. And like it or not, signing crappy bands for the money will never stop. This is called capitalism. I'm sure the people at CM have families to feed and rent to pay and that dosen't get done selling only black metal or whatever. Why can't you go to another record company for good music anyway? Maybe you want 'true' bands to have the distro that CM has? Well maybe you should be petitioning the fact that other 'true' lables need better distro. Something like "Warner and Sony should pick up Willow tip and Season of mist"
