Metal / Re: Why is metal retarded?

Intelligence is a bell curve, so if you're at the far right of the curve, everything else seems retarded. There is no reason to think that intelligence in metalheads is distributed differently than in the entire population.

What might be a difference is that nowadays nearly everybody in Western society a) knows more or less how to read and write, b) has access to the internet, whereas this wasn't the case 50 (a) or 10 (b) years ago.

On top of that, society encourages individual expression. The dictum is "everybody has the right to have an opinion", and "opinions" are considered to be just that: not related to the knowledge/understanding of facts. Opinions have become like "taste" - and de gustibus et coloribus non est disputandum, so everybody feels safe to say their part, since people think "opinions" can't be refuted because the majority of people (that bell curve again) think they are merely subjective.

Society encourages this participation/expression in public debates, since public debates have become a market (Facebook, usercomments on various sites, etc.).

Nothing broke, it's just a side effect of educational and technological advancements: idiots (including the idiots in metal) have gotten a larger forum than the town square or the local bar.

The rail from which the train would suppose to crash into the bridge is obviously not used anymore. the bridge has been erected later, after that particular catch point has stopped to be a danger to it.

It's easy to diss governments and societies' structures. Myopia indeed.

2% isn't a community. And according such logic, a group consisting of 2%ers will likely dissolve into 90-8-2%-ish structures as well. What is the message here? Don't start a community? Surely people that start a blog/forum can't have issues with people just lurking? Mere consuming/praising passivity on one part of the divide has been inherent in most writer/artist-audience structures for ages. The internet is not going to change that.

The thing to do for the 2%ers is not to diss the lurkers, but be positive/constructive and try to make the 100% group larger, so that the number of 2%ers also grows.

I'm 'just' a lurker on the forum, and sometimes post in the blog's comments. This site has changed the way I listen to metal, and for a part even to music in general. I haven't contributed to this forum, true, but I do spread a message of DEATH METAL in my social surroundings.

Change will probably be a good thing, but killing the blog or the forum seems like an overreaction to whatever the problems are.

Whatever will be decided: thank you, to all involved, for all the work you've put in so far.
