Metal / Re: America should have avoided making black metal

It's subjecitve.

Search around for the "subjectivity vs. objectivity in music" debate on this forum.  Pro tip: objectivity won.

I'm not interested.

They're considered a parody because their ideals? Most peculiar and somewhat grounded in a blinkered view of what Black Metal is/ was.
They are a parody because their ideals represent an absurd caricature of Black Metal.

Decline over time is widespread in all musical genres, not exclusive to Metal. That these acts declined as massively as they did, I consider farcical. I have more respect for individuals sticking to their guns than losing their shit.
I completely disagree.  If you look at any other discipline it becomes clear that this is just silly.  Isaac Newton made tremendous contributions to math and science, then ended up losing his shit and reverting into a total Christian Revelation Theologian.  Compare that to UFO-ologists who are always sticking to their guns.

If I have noticed an abundance of "fuckin' bestial black metal" and "black thrash retardation" then I haven't paid attention to it. I listen to acts I deem worthy to my ears and ignore the rest of the collective waste of human effort that has become the Heavy Metal genre over the last 2 decades. Some bands are worth listening to, others are not. It's subjecitve. What's your point?
My point would be that maybe you should have noticed it, for it is staring you right in the face.

Like, that's just your opinion, man!

I take it that, in the Metal Hall, Black Metal must be intellectually defined by nature worship and triumphant themes to be taken seriously? This is somewhat laughable and blinkered; seemingly conforming to a gang mentality considered "correct" on this message board. How tedious.

The Isaac Newton vs UFO-ologist metaphor is a little ridiculous in the context  of the statement I made about musicians regressing vs musicians sticking to their guns. I get your point, it just seems flamboyant and pretentious.

As regards the the comment I should pay attention to the modern day Metal scene to be made aware of mediocrity? Why?  I don't pay attention to crap that "stares me in the face" as I don't follow Metal in the media or any pathetic Metal/ Hessian scene that you seem so enlightened of. Why would I want to deal with a subculture that holds such mind numbingly conformist views? Metallers are generally pathetic idiots screaming "Sataaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!!" while drunk or chin stroking, dull as fuck gonks.. Both caricatures offer me nothing, pretty much like your stereotypical ANUS mindsets.

Explain how Black Witchery are a parody. They embrace the Satanic philosophy of immorality and destruction
I can't speak for Umbrage, but that would be exactly the reason  I would consider them parody.

unlike the Norse bands who have by and large shown their true colours by creating 3rd rate music later on in their careers, remain unrelentingly barbaric in their musical output. Bands like Darkthrone and Emperor are more a parody by contrast, creating some relevant music in their infancy and then releasing worthless dross later on.
The decline of quality over time has been widespread in Metal.  I believe there have been multiple topics on the subject.  Regardless, making a few first rate albums then a ton of shit is better than making nothing but mediocre releases over and over again.

Black Metal, aside from that influenced by Blasphemy, seems to me to be a crock of shit nowadays. I find it very difficult to take it seriously as the years go by. It seems to be a genre weakened by trend and moronic Metal idiots.

(Black Witchery, Krieg, both these bands are parodies of BM)

What kind of a feeble comment is that?

Ever got back from the pub after a few drinks, smoked some marijuana and then engaged in feral, animalistic, urine enhanced fucking with your girlfriend? If you ever get the opportunity to do so, throw on some Teitanblood and see if things work out for you, but I'm guessing folks here are too busy stroking their cock rods to 90s "original classics" and posting endlesly on the internet about how worthless modern Heavy Metal is to engage in such behaviour. Honestly, how fucking tedious... just like these bands, yup?

The fact that you like these bands that were criticized in the original post makes it difficult for me to take you seriously. If you would have worded your argument in more neutral and explicative terms than maybe I would have been able to think of it as something else other then the rant of an enraged fan-boy.

Uh.. Pretty sure it's the admitted urolagnia that makes him a joke, more than his taste in music.

You guys, eh?! Honestly! Admitted "urolagnia" (digging the medical term, holmes!) makes someone a joke? I am more amused by an individual's obsession with debating irerrelevant music on a website than one's sexual tastes. Animalism and chaos are often enhanced by sound. That some peope never learn this is more indicative of a pedestrian mentality to life which I cannot relate to.

By the way, my "rant" wasn't a rant. I'm more amused by the chin stroking indignation on this web site than anything else. The elitist attitude has long been a mask for individuals lacking in self esteem and social skills. I find this 100% more tiresome than any band sounding like another band of which you owned an album by that was better when it first came out 10 years ago. You dig? Probably fucking  not...

I'd like to love this, or I'd love to like it, but I don't want to listen to it again.

I actually d'loaded this on national Slayer day and listened to it in my car on the way to drop my girl back home. I've seen this referenced since Metallica in the 80s and never bothered with it due to the fact that:

a) Static Age is possibly the greatest punk rock'n'roll album ever made

b) Walk Among Us is fucking hideous and made me believe that anything post Static Age was wothless garbage

Earth AD is indeed a venomous listen and clearly highly influential on "Extreme Music". Static Age, however, is simply incomparable but for entirely different reasons. The combination of 50s influenced punk and B movie/ trashy horror aesthetic is unbeatable!

I need to check out more Samhain admittedly. The first 3 Danzig albums too are excellent. Before he started wearing pentagram adorned PVC tops the man was a fuggin' creative whirlwind. The track he wrote for Roy Orbison on the Less Than Zero soundtrack blows me away every time I hear it. I strongly reccomend anyway who enjoys Danzig's 50s obsession ala Blood and Tears and Sistinas checks it out!

Metal / Re: Pragmatism and Black Metal
« on: April 12, 2010, 07:12:56 PM »
What does Black Metal mean in essence? Initially it seemed a medium for individuals to kick against the society they'd been born into (eg. Venom through their punk rock, "fuck you" Le Veyan rebellion and Burzum with his pro-nationalistic stance and church burning) but I see over time it has seemed to boil down to hatred of everything and the worship (sic) of profane anti-human acts such as terrorist attacks, human abuse and war. Alongside this, depressive "I must recline into the shadows" Black Metal has blossomed. Maybe I'm wrong but I always thought there was something more to the music and its philosophy other than "I hate you/ I hate myself". Wasn't there once a hint of arrogance and deeper comprehension of human behaviour and a need to rise above that pitiful herd mentality? I see less of this and more just utter nihilism.

Anti-Cosmic Satanism is a possible starting point for anyone wanting to have a better understanding of what some bands are lyrically/ philosophically about, although it does seem like the ramblings of dellusional Heavy Metal fans who need to get a fucking grip.

The incidental footage of Bill Steer and Shane Embury is taken from the BBC Arena Heavy Metal documentary. It's on this part:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upzrYAJN_Ck&feature=PlayList&p=3D702BA8F8A128B1&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=39

I've not seen it in its entirity since I was a kid, but it looks like an entertaining enough film. Slam dance/ moshing footage at a metal club makes me laugh but also makes me hate Anthrax even more than ever...

It doesn't make you depressed for life. That's utter cock.

How not to be a typical stoner:

1. Smoke only in the evenings past 8 o'clock

2. Smoke sativa dominant marijuana (low cbd and average 15% thc) in a bong, vapouriser or pipe

3. Smoke no more than two grams a week

4. Never smoke with tobacco

5. Use as a transcendental tool for worship of music, nature, women, etc

6. Create or explore

7. Burn your shitty fucking Kyuss and Cypress conging Hill cdeez and worship Chris Carter and Grave Miasma instead

Hail Cannabis! Death to lazy, stoner fucktard scum! Fuck!

Good news to all involved. Let's hope something interesting comes from this new chapter in the band's history.

(Is it a trifle peculiar to posters on this forum that some of us may be more interested in Morbid Angel getting a record deal, and thus continuing their musical career, than the layout of a fucking website? Jesus wept.... )

Metal as a lifestyle? What lifestyle? What do you have to do to have it as your code for life, eh? I have a lack of respect for scene kids and nerdy Metal fans. Fuck living your life for Metal. Manowar? No thanks. Honour and dignity and a level of intelligence above that of the herd is enough for me to respect others.

As a fan of metal since I was 7 years of age (and I'm now pushing 35) what do I need to do to be "Metal"? I don't own old demos, I haven't got any band shirts, I've got a bunch of vinyl that I cherish and listen to reguarly (and don't fucking list on the NWN forum...) and I wear a denim with a couple of band patches on that I deem worthy and that's it. I don't go to Metal gigs as I have no interest in the bands that play in the UK/ modern bands (excluding Blaspherian and Teitanblood) and I have a handful of friends that like Metal too (whether some less than perceptive stoner rock/ NWOBHM fans or elitist "extreme" Metal fans) that I see and occasionally discuss Metal with. I also gladly listen to Prince, Vangelis and The Pixies. But, err, surely that's kind of "gay" and not very "Metal"?

Darkness, perception, strength through dignity and honour, nature worship, animalism and perversion. This is what I get from "Metal". I am authentic but what the fuck do you have to do to have Metal as your lifestyle and prove authenticity to others? It seems that drinking beer and never getting laid is the key as well as being able to argue the toss between the merits of 80s Morbid Angel against the cons of the 90s material of said band. Fuck that. That sounds dull and shit to me...

Metal / Re: Autopsy confirmed for Maryland Deathfest 2010
« on: August 15, 2009, 10:23:21 AM »
But is it really good news that Autopsy will reform for this gig? I have tremendous respect for Chris Reifert (a true individual who does things his own way) and Autopsy's mutant Death/ Doom stylings and thus I genuinely hope this doesn't end in yet another pointless reformation and new lacklusture album; a trend all too common amongst most great bands from the 80s/ 90s. I am delighted I missed Celtic Frost's come back, I hasten to add...

Have you heard the new material? I thought it was pretty good.

Indeed I have and I wasn't let down; and I'll state here and now that Autopsy are easily one of my favourite bands due to their oft psychedelic flourishes and downright macabre riffs (you can't beat the intro riff to Embalmed for  sinister hideous filth!) but....  I just fucking hate come backs and as Chris has said that it ain't fucking happening I genuinely hope the man is as good as his word. Anywho, Abcess are practically just a more crusted out version of Autopsy anyway so why bring Autopsy back? Ha ha!

I'm just a stubborn bastard who likes it when the fans don't get what they want! Awkward people are more interesting and there's nothing worse than the notion that some fucking spineless wretch is utilising a back catalogue in one last ditch at getting the Metal spotlight on 'em. I genuinely believe Reifert et al. wouldn't do that.. but, hey, who knows, eh? The same could be said of Obituary several years back and, err, aren't they dull as ruddy fuck nowadays?!

Metal / Re: FENRIZ: "90's black metal is for little kids"
« on: August 14, 2009, 05:36:39 PM »
Just don't expect me to listen to any of the crap they produce along the way.

Creating landfill for the sake of personal gratification and the possibility of material reward/ego boost seems to be the new cult pre-occupation of black metal bands nowadays, even for former legends.

The pre-occupation of 90% of Metal bands full stop, from what I can ascertain.

One man's land fill is another man's pleasure apparently. A friend of mine thinks the last one is great and evidently the recordings must be in demand or they wouldn't keep on throwing them out so regularly. Equally, lo-fi atmospheric acts such as Von and Demoncy are genuinely deemed landfill by most individuals I know that have any interest in "Heavy Metal music". Elitism seperates the wheat from the chaff it's just a shame so few people are willing to recognise/ have the intelligence to do so.

Metal / Re: FENRIZ: "90's black metal is for little kids"
« on: August 14, 2009, 10:15:28 AM »
Hmmmm. Is it really necessary to complain about Fenriz so much? True, anything post Panzer Faust I have no need for as they (Darkthtrone) are too predestrian for my ears and fail to capture the grandeur/ creativity of the earlier works, but people get older, times change and musical genres become tired and worthless. I admire his convictions, and so fucking what if he goes on about camping? Personally I am not a metal gonk/ confromist imbecile/ media follower/ regular concert attendee and thus I am happier to read about someone enjoying some of the  things I enjoy also (the absolue eternal glory of mother nature!) rather than some fucking clone ranting on about who produced the album, etc, etc. Maybe if people spent longer hours actually revelling in the natural world then they may become a little more open minded about life, see the wood for the trees and not be so hell bent on fucking hating people on internet forums for making shitty albums... This is not aimed at anyone here but merely an observation.

I find it a little odd that a man with a cynicical view of mankind sees worth in modern Metal, however, but then that's my point of view. Fanatacism and enjoyment of music is surely Fenriz' raison d'etre and, although I am absolutely 100% cynical as bloody fuck (and would rather listen to the 1st Goldfrapp or Danzig album than sit through a modern Metal release), I think it's a positive thing that someone older than 25 still gives a fuck. Fucking strange but ultimately quite encouraging, wouldn't you agree? I'm sure their are bands that I may enjoy but I'm in my mid 30s and I haven't the time on my hands to fuck about downloading shit from the net just to dismiss it, you dig?

Having said all this, I cannot defend new Darkthrone in any way. It's too grounded in reality and I do not want this. For me the best Metal (music in fucking general...) transcends reality and takes me somewhere else where I am not stood next to some wanker in a cut off denim with a Mayhem tee shirt on talking loudly about the die hard vinyl box set of Von he aquired over the net, whilst simultaneously air guitaring to Slayer. That, seemingly, this isn't Fenriz' bag either, so to speak (gauged purely from his comments about not enjoying the company of others), I wonder why he does what he does. But then, ah fuck it, it seems as though the last laugh is on everyone: Fenriz and Nocturno are having fun (!) doing what they want to do and making money/ upsetting people along the way; and if that isn't Punk Rock I don't know what is.... Just don't expect me to listen to any of the crap they produce along the way.
