Commerce / Re: The DLA "scene": users' own compositions
« on: July 24, 2012, 11:41:10 AM »
So uhh, since I last posted my bandcamp page, I've written material for another album, and put them together into a double-demo of sorts. It's got real guitar this time, and vocals, so I'm going to physically release it.
It's up here on YouTube for those who want to hear it: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA2D624ADD44C676C&feature=plcp

Yeah man I get what you mean, I've only really been writing music for 6 months or so and most of my musical knowledge actually comes from learning songs by ear and basically replicating the way in which different chords tie together, song structure etc. I never really cared much for music theory and just figured it all out myself, for better or worse haha

« on: June 14, 2012, 01:11:19 AM »Well I've gone and finished a song if anyone wants to hearThis is pretty blatant in it's Burzum (read: Det Som En Gang Var from Hvis Lyset Tar Oss) thievery, as well as a few helpings of of some 0peth progressions here and there in the first five minutes. As such, even though my opinion means nothing to anyone still using this site, I'd avoid this like the plague. The entire structure of the song is borrowed from the song I referenced previously, and quite frankly, you've already all heard this before.

That said, speaking for the riffs themselves, there are definitely some great ideas being unearthed here. Get yourself a drummer, change the vocal style to operatic or something at least discernable, and start exploring more of what you began at 10:21.
Well funny you should mention 0peth cause I haven't listened to them in a few years. I get what you mean about the Burzum worship, I guess it was always intentional from the beginning but I wouldn't say it's outright thievery, but hey whatever
And also funny you said I should explore more of 10:21, because I've cut that entire section off now and just ended it there, haha, ah well

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I'll admit, most of the songs I write are generally written in a really short burst within a few hours, and very VERY little thought goes into the structuring. Some of it, I think, turns out really well in the structure but yeah as you said, a few songs need variation and 'bad parts' trimmed off which I feel like I did with the songs on my bandcamp but definitely not that song with the vocals. Anyway, thanks again for the comments, I really appreciate it

« on: May 12, 2012, 12:02:01 AM »I want to add vocals to that so badly, or hear it with vocals from the artist. Drum machine or not this is unbelievably good stuff. I'll be keeping my eye out for this band.
yeah thanks man, i recorded a track with vocals here if you want to hear them http://soundcloud.com/dead-hills/leaves-of-ash
If I had the right funding, I'd release your stuff without hesitation. The only thing I'd change is the drum dub itself. When the measure loops sometimes you can hear the transfer, but really it's pretty forgivable with everything else going on. Long live the screamcry!
actually that's the guitar looping haha, it's all copy pasted because i was still figuring out the structure of it

Gonna repost this in hopes of it getting noticed
I call it a demo because it has no vocals, a drum machine and all the guitar parts were recorded with a pitch-shifted bass. Hugely influenced by Transilvanian Hunger although I didn't really notice that until after I had recorded it all.
I've posted this on a few other forums but I wanna hear any harsh criticism or thoughts from this site because this is where I found most of the music I listen to nowadays, cheers

Cheers, the compositional part for me comes pretty naturally, I don't think beforehand 'oh this could be the verse', I just let it flow
And yeah the tags were suggested to me by the website so I just chose them haha

Metal / Re: Why not create your own metal music?
« on: July 05, 2011, 09:44:16 AM »
I do. It's just absolutely crap.
Sometimes I'll come up with something I see as brilliant but I can't put any direction to it, and with a lot of my good-flowing music the actual riffs are just crap.
But then of course I know nothing about music at all

Chasm / Re: What to do after high school

I guess I need to have a good think about this. Next year I'll be finished high school and I'll be taking a break year in Vanuatu (the idea is to get away from society), but after that I really don't know.

Chasm / IDOS discussion

I don't think this would gain ANY momentum where I live; there are virtually zero metalheads in my town, they fliers would probably just be torn down. Oh well, worth a shot.

But what if you are Prozak?
Shut up Prozak. Us parts of Prozak's mind (all of us) must work together otherwise this forum will look as if it's falling apart.
