Chasm / Re: Drunk, Destructive, and Disturbed
« on: June 06, 2013, 10:51:58 PM »Is GG Allin really being honest though?
If he was honest he'd admit that deep down he yearns for a healthy life.
Do you really, REALLY think that? GG was fucked up in the head. Last thing he would want would be to not to what he did.
Most people in his position - I'd agree with you - but for GG, absolutely not. Some just don't give a shit about a stable life.

VLC is top dog when it comes to video playback.
I prefer WinAmp for music playback, but since I have an old iPod I use iTunes (though in the past I've used MediaMonkey instead and found it more than an adequate replacement).

Truth. The music created and subsequent downfall can be entertaining in a black comedy type way. But ultimately a conclusion is sooner than later when it comes to GG Allin and similar music.

I like that song.
Haven't read the book - didn't even know about it until this thread. Looks interesting, though.

« on: May 29, 2013, 10:44:29 PM »Morgengrau and Cruciamentum are great. I got to see the latter this weekend at MDF, and thanks to the semi-coherent hired goons that made up the venue security, I only caught the last song. (last show, too?)
It was bullshit, right? I'm in the same boat. Missed them because of the moronic security.
I'll have to check out Morgengrau.

The idea that we don't know what to prepare for is a troubling one indeed, 03-04.
We as a society need to step back and re-assess our priorities. Perhaps a catastrophe is what it may take...hopefully not....

Oh, sodomy. Always the group activity!
Anyways, I have two ideas for this. First, Derketa is playing a show on Thursday before the MDF show that day at a bar very near the fest location - we could meet there. Alternatively, Friday the fest doesn't start until 3 PM. Hesher brunch?
I'm game for everything incl. the ass play (what is a Derketa?)
But yes, lunch/drinks, sounds good.
Derketa

Excellent idea. Just try to have it not end in reckless sodomy like last time...

I don't know anyone, but did you also try posting on the MDF forums to try to sell it? That place is always a good bet.

Chasm / Re: What are you like?
« on: May 14, 2013, 05:38:09 PM »
I believe this is one of the hardest questions that anyone - ever - has to ask themselves.
Happiness is fleeting. I seek contentment in my life. At this point, I'm nearing some of my major life goals, so it's looking up. I would say that I could use improvement in some areas (getting back to working out - squats, deadlifts, presses - are what I need to start again), but overall I like me. I don't think anyone can ever stop improving themselves, so I don't believe anyone is EVER truly happy with themselves in the fullest, but that doesn't stop me from appreciating where I am now.
You're your own worst critic. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Maha, Saif, hope to see you gents there.
I'll be staying at the Sleep Inn, which is right next to the Holiday Inn Express - across from the former Sonar compound. I'll be there all 4 days.
Should we organize some sort of meeting of forum members here? Maybe get some beers or a meal together.

Chasm / Re: Non-metal

David Bowie (if you like pop music he's one of the better options) and Kraftwerk both did.
As for metal, I know Queensryche and Fates Warning cite them. Both had good material early on in their careers.
I'm unsure of any death metal bands that are influenced by PF, but I know Enslaved was.

« on: May 09, 2013, 03:38:05 PM »Most importantly, the Pink Floyd band isn't clearly a part of the genealogy of metal.
Do you think so? I'm sure a lot of the more 'proggy' type metal bands took direct or indirect influence from them.
I'd call them an inspiration - definitely not metal - but part of metal's overall lexicon. What would your argument be against that?
