I think what he is saying is that while people's tastes may differ quite a bit, everyone should hold the classics in high esteem.

If i had to choose an album to represent black metal it would be this one. Majestic, epic, it makes a fantasy world come to life when you listen to it. I don't have a problem with the production either.

Funebre - children of the scorn

Finnish death metal in general really.

autechre is great stuff. i'm trying to get into kraftwerk and tangerine dream as well.

Beherit - electric doom synthesis is an essential release, and the title says it all. i wouldn't bother with the other one, though admittedly i haven't given it more than a couple of listens.

Adramelech are definitely superior to most dm, although i wish they had carried on with a sound more similar to their first ep. that's killer shit. however, i wouldn't call them "definitive" even for the finnish death metal scene, after all they formed from the split of demigod.

black metal:
bathory - under the sign of the black mark
enslaved - vikingligr veldi
burzum - det som engang var
darkthrone - a blaze in the northern sky
immortal - pure holocaust
emperor - in the nightside eclipse

death metal:
morbid angel - blessed are the sick
massacra - final holocaust
unleashed - where no life dwells
at the gates - the red in the sky is ours
immolation - here in after
suffocation - effigy of the forgotten

Very different from the later stuff, i guess i would most liken it to demilich.

No idea, they've been having those kind of problems for a long time from what i've read. very undernoticed band, i really like their sound.

Metal / grindcore and such

I know grindcore/gorecore or whatever is generally looked down upon here, but i was wondering if there is anything out there that is worth listening to? would the recommendations page be a good place to start?

Vlad Tepes, Belketre..

Actually, recommend and/or post thoughts on any Black Legions bands that are worthy.

Mütiilation is the only black legions band worth your time.
