Metal / Re: Hessian Meetings
« on: July 20, 2006, 09:30:40 AM »
What to do?

I can already see where a gathering of 4 or 5 people might go and it may tend to gravitate toward the entertainment phase, following some discussion that resembles online forum chat. How to promote and cement Hessians as culture is a little difficult to conceive right now, with flyering and interpersonal networking at shows seeming most realistic. Beyond introductions are some intermediary options that can become part of a group effort.

1) Attend and collaborate in art, music and philosophy courses at a local campus
2) Form a band with knowledge gained from step one
3) Put together a small recording studio and jam session space

For number 3 there are small arts, crafts, and machine shops in what are called industrial parks in a lot of cities. You would probably have to pay electric in addition to rented space costs each month.

Q: is Gay Christ for neoclassical and old metal trading only or will new demo recordings and full albums get distributed?

Most of the work has already been done by SRP, so it's really only a matter of organizing the material into something presentable.

Metal music has gotten exhaustive attention. The rare people that enjoy this music and the surrounding cultural movement beyond the music has not gotten as much detail.

In the modern world black and death metal affirms the realism of mortal existence as was generally more the case in the ancient world. The modern world gives us distractions like everlasting life, 640 porcine virgins and eternal salvation, with the rigid, often ill logic of morals forced on us as a prerequisite means. Black and death metal are manifestations of an ancient heroic spirit within (western) man and like modes of thought that preceded modernity.

It is a little difficult to articulate the worship of power as rejection of herd blindly following morality. Some more ideas along these lines may birth a ~500 word essay.

A canonical collection furthers the purpose of Hessian studies and cements the group as an identifiable culture.

i disagree whole-heartedly with the comments about MF.  those first two albums, when they came out - there was nothing remotely like them.

I understand what you are saying. However, is art correctly defined as "nothing like this existed before"? Additionally, Anton LaVey's satanism existed before the band MF was formed and Allister Crowley existed prior to Anton LaVey.

I've never liked Mercyful Fate, and Running Wild fucking sucks.

Concur. Mercyful Fate impresses the mediocre listener with shocking image rather than offering a discretionary listener sweeping visionary work beyond modernity's memes. King Diamond's Fatal Portrait or Abigail would be a superior pick to anything from MF, meaning nothing from these particular entertainers should get included.

Evolving as a cultural movement that has grown uncontrollably beyond simply concerts and Friday night headbanger parties, Hessians are just another ugly, annoying, loud, upsetting and obnoxious addition to our wonderfully diverse multicultural society. Everyone wants more deeply intermingled diversity right? Business wants Hessians as regular customers too right? Jesus loves Hessians and would like more of them in and around His churches too doesn't He? No? Well, that's a violation of our civil rights, a federal crime with compensatory lawsuit on the way. In addition we would like to see full credit humanities courses in Hessian studies.

I don't desire any granular debate on albums, but Master of Reality would rank alongside Paranoid. Sweetleaf was an old classic with the local Hessian youth for readily apparent reasons. Into the Void takes us beyond the apocalyptic Christian hysteria and suggests that transcending such fabricated madness is always within our own power. Additionally, Iommi's guitar work, in my view, was a bit more profound or muscular, "cranked better" than in Paranoid. Lord of This World comes to mind.

Definitely need help with the older heavy metal... know nothing about it!

Cynical got those listed. The big three are all NWOBHM Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.  Best album each:

Black Sabbath - s/t
Iron Maiden - Killers
Judas Priest - Stained Class

We also have the Orwellian memory hole effect as a possible tool, in replacing actual events that have passed from the public mind during the time that has passed with fabricated events.

Back in June 2006, Paris, France witnessed what reporters have described as the most violent Hessian revival march in recent history. According to police, nearly 100,000 Hessians took to the streets, but event organizers put the number of participants closer to 500,000. According to MSNBC, "Some demonstrators became violent as the march ended. Youths set a car on fire, smashing a shop window, trashing a bus stop and throwing stones, golf balls and other objects at police. Police responded with tear gas during skirmishes that lasted several hours." Over the past year, French Hessian students have been actively negotiatiating with university representatives to meet with state officials for their own June 6th holiday. The closing of the coming 2007 event may bring the desired results to the Hessian students for in and around Paris.

Agitate and grossly bloat the reporting like in the real world.

Virtually overnight, a global phenomena has taken the world by storm. Last year during June 2006, the rapid comeback of underground heavy metal asserted its authority in declaring that the sixth of the sixth month be known as National Day of Slayer. This stunning public announcement captivated millions of metal fans who took to the streets abroad, waving the Hessian flag and later their own national flag, demanding their own respective National Day of Slayer. Without hesitation, the resourceful leadership behind this growing movement evolved National Day into International Day to fulfill the needs of the expanding Hessian culture revival. In most major cities, the Hessian revival march was confronted by religious fundamentalist resistance. Few casualties were reported by the press, although some churches were defaced in the aftermath. Widespread reports of church arson, loud late night disturbances, public drunken disorderliness and grave desecration are still under investigation and have not yet been connected with any member of the Hessian march from that time. With another June 6th drawing close, public safety councilors and clergymen are playing down the coming event for 2007. Some community leaders have recommended preparation and readiness for everyone by stocking up on canned goods, flashlights, fresh water, fire extinguishers and an extra pair of earplugs for each member of the household.

We have the option of more than one symbolic day or not bothering with symbology at all.

We can Bless the World with nihilistic metal diversity on both 4-20, 6-6 as Hessian days.

Maybe add Golgotha Day for the hell of it.

What say?

April 20th is also "Four Twenty" = world cannabis day and supposedly Mohammed's birthday.

In ancient and medieval Europe there was a Fool's Day where the peasants would have a great celebration culminating in a triumphant march into their local lord's great hall. That's probably our April 1st.

The Maypole Dance is supposedly fallic and fertility, but I prefer the Axis of Yggdrassil and Life symbology for that one. So, May is occupied.

Officially in May, we in the US have Labor Day. The date was moved from the original September date of the Chicago labor riots and many deaths early last century. I doubt the memory-holed September date is appropriate for a Hessian Day because it is limited in time and geographic scope.

Simply listen to Megadeth then listen to DRI. There you go.

Good point. The idiotic herd needs visible activity for awareness and mass entertainment news publishes the sensational, exciting, horrifying, tragic, humorous. Day of the Hessian would have to compete with  minority/gay oppression, Christian evangelicals, road side bombs and beheadings.

My thought was Halloween or Winter Solstice for several reasons, mainly heritage, cultural and theatrical. The days correspond with "bad" in the Christian reality bubble. I'm fairly certain Nov. 1 is witchcraft's most important day and Oct 31 is of course Halloween/Samhain, which has been defiled like Yule - cheesy, plastic junk, moron tunes and all that grief-slop our pig-herd public enjoys.
