The band whose production keeps entrancing me is Asphyx on the self-titled. It's aggressive distortion, but it doesn't lose tone or subtone either. Wish I knew how they did it.

"Yes we improved quite a bit, but that's natural of course. I don' think, by the way, that "The Rack" has a killer production. The guitar and vocals are good, but the drumsound and bass are a bit buried in the mix 'coz it was only on 8 tracks. I hope that Century Media will remix the thing sometime... But then again it was only recorded in 3 days, it's a not finished and still under construction 8 track studio demo and costed only 1500$ US! So with that in mind "The Rack" sounds killer!

Only 8 tracks and that massive sound? Wow.

I recall reading another interview in the web where they talked a little about their guitar distortion and tone.

THE BEAST OF LERNA

My lone abode was a reeking basin of rotting fish
With silent ambience of dead trees and serpentine hiss
Until the day He came and shared with me what it was to know (herd's) fear
Slashing with a flaming brand, countless of my heads did he sear

There was no real reason for what he did;
An arbitrary mortal quest in pursuit of atonement and glory was bid
But to succeed where many others had failed
A tragic hero was brought, ever scorned and hailed

Wasn't it fate that brought us to fight?
To test which one of us arises in might
No odds, no antagonism, but irreconcilable disunity
No laws, no judges, but excess of impunity

Now I lie forever here, decapitated
From within devoured, poison blooded
Yet the very heritage grants me immortality
Such a folly! Gods be damned for their joviality!

By the name of the chtonic father downcast
The serpent whose breath is defiance and tempest
If I ever was to grow whole again
I would torment and kill everything with my poison -- for no gain

But because that is our true nature...
Now languishing in this material tenure
The poison fuels my twisted thoughts, feats
Somewhere the black heart still beats!

The conjoined twins make us breath
Life, I demand more Death!

I've read an interesting but uncited claim in the Internet that male pattern baldness used to be fairly rare in pre-industrial Japan, but the prevalence exploded after Japan reached its modern welfare after WWII.

Eating too much fructose and glucose can turn off the gene that regulates the levels of active testosterone and estrogen in the body, shows a new study in mice and human cell cultures that's published this month in the Journal of Clinical Investigation. This discovery reinforces public health advice to eat complex carbohydrates and avoid sugar.

Insightful observation.

Metal music always hit me as a form of protest music, addressing the lack of the assertive masculine (warrior) spirit of ancient times.

The better metal artists, of course, transcendented the inherent whining and excess preachiness of the protest because their vision is both realistic and inspiring.

My order on Adipocere was fine, except that I had to wait for a while for the package to arrive.

If you're interested in Sacramentum, why not order straight from Zenor Records who made a reprint "Far From the Sun + Finis Malorum"?

Or just STFG (search the fucking google). There are plenty of distros still selling it.

Reverend Bizarre

How's the new release? I have listened to their past material which, despite being instrumentally excellent, has very little to say: it's like a collection of doom metal cliches.

Ok. Here's the positive critique:

If Metal is supposed to communicate a notion of heroism and strength to it's listeners, why the worrying about hair length? I see not it's relevance on this forum. It would seem better suited to moronic forums that cater to a more retarded crowd. Or am I making assumptions that are entirely incorrect?

Didn't we already have this particular piece of critique covered by another poster? Several times? By your satire?

I think adding 'negative' to my post might have been too confusing to the meaning of the message: any sort of criticism falls short on contribution IF the critics themselves don't also take act on better change.

Several persons repeating the same critique is beating a dead horse.

Peste Noire's Folkfuck Folie was a magnificient take on eclectic, highly neoclassical, metal.
Mütiilation's Sorrow Galaxies took the best song writing ideas of their past three albums and made it a working totality.

Several people making negative criticism without any attempt to contribute to a positive change => FAIL, probably hipsters

If you don't like something, either ignore it or make it better.

Metal / Black Metal trees
« on: October 24, 2007, 12:05:43 PM »
Carnivorous trees grabbing humans and cattle and gobbling them up is not just village folklore.

Residents of Padrame near Kokkoda in Uppinangady forest range sighted one such carnivorous tree trying to dine on a cow last Thursday. According to reports, the cow owned by Anand Gowda had been left to graze in the forests.

The cow was suddenly grabbed by the branches and pulled from the ground. The terrified cowherd ran to the village, and got Gowda and a band of villagers to the carnivorous tree.

Interzone / Re: Elitism
« on: October 22, 2007, 08:58:36 AM »
Elitism can be applied well and badly.

Elitism alone is the mindset which filters out undesired traits. Unfortunately, since elitism is arbitrary, it needs meritocratic control for real talent and ability or we end up with ridiculous in-groups:
- bigoted White Nationalists who achieve nothing
- Pantera fans
- retards who like Jazz

These all exist only to give pleasure to the in-group members; merit demans that we look beyond individual preferences and wants.

When elite and merit combine, a new wave of high culture is born: there is desire to get forward and see that it doesn't stop too soon.
