Best Of Black Metal

"Black metal took the lawless extremity of death metal and added a greater use of melody, creating swelling surges of sound that sweep the listener away with raw emotion and then arrive in a wasteland devoid of inherent value. Songs fashioned from primitive elements end up telling complex tales, embarking on a journey where the greatest human fears — meaninglessness, predation and violence — end up being salvation from the frustrating world of entropy-bound stagnation. Thematically black metal represents an assault on the pillars of modernity, namely egalitarianism, consumerism and tolerance."

Best Of Death Metal

"Death metal uses tremolo strummed power chords in phrasal riffs, creating an internal dialogue of melody to project a narrative which takes us from a starting point through internal conflict to an ending radically removed from the start. This often complex music relies heavily on chromatic scales and solos that resemble sonic sculpture more than a reliance on scales or harmony, and use “modal stripes” or repeated interval patterns (such as a half interval followed by a whole) to maintain a mood. Inherently structuralist, death metal can be recognized by its “post-human” perspective, seeing the world through biology, history, warfare and mythology instead of the “I/me/mine” viewpoint of a modern society."

Metal / Nunslaughter - Angelic Dread
« on: May 24, 2014, 05:57:48 PM »
New album from "devil metal" band Nunslaughter has leaked: http://www59.zippyshare.com/v/25827052/file.html.

I haven't listened to it. In fact, I've only heard the demo compilation by this band but I thought it was cool and was looking forward to checking out their full-lengths. Their "Goat" album was reviewed in an old SMR article but it's actually a positive review.

Anyway, just posting this in case any of the writers want to pick it up for a review.

Just checked to see if it was on Youtube and someone has uploaded the full EP today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWgOsn7lMMg.

Less speed and more atmosphere on this one. Bleak as hell.

This album has been added to the Profanatica audiofile thread for those who enjoy filthy blasphemous metal.

I've only given it a couple of spins but it's certainly a hellish listen and another very creative album for the band. Liking it so far!

Metal / Birth A.D. - I Blame You
« on: June 21, 2013, 03:21:15 PM »
I've just popped the full length album in the audiofile for those interested.

It's basically like the EP but longer and more punch to it. I like the way they're criticizing other thrash bands as well as society.

We won't write any songs about thrash
Or put it on a shirt for some easy cash
We'll never tell you to get in the pit
Just do what you like, we don't give a shit

"Latecomer to the black metal scene Ulver adapted the rough aesthetic of black metal in a modern rock context, providing a product to open up black metal to the masses."
