Metal / Re: Best Of Lists
« on: July 02, 2013, 08:34:06 AM »
God, I love lists. Any kind of list, really! Shame on me and my terrible attention span. Speaking of these lists, what happened to these when the site switched over? This site's list is much more bloated, and has a few curious omissions (from my point of view, anyways). Could we see a more concise list  here, with a bit more exposition on what makes those artists/albums stand out, and what they contributed to the genre?

Hailz and horns to you guys! Maybe I'll join that pantheon someday.

Yeah, my comment was out of place on this topic, and on these boards in general, as it contributed little, Get that damn self pity out of here! Really, I'm just trying to maintain some semblance of activity here, no matter how little it is (I'd decompose, otherwise).

I feel like I'm a very spiritual/esoteric person, living in a logical, scientific world. I can't really envision anything supernatural to exist, which I suppose is why I love black metal so much. I get to pretend Satan exists, and that he's worth worshiping, for reasons that are beyond my comprehension. It's been the only source of beauty in my life for a great while, now.

I'd be happier to stop walking, but in some sense I think you've found some truth there, crow. I'd still not use that answer if a potential employer were asking me, though.

I'm proud of nothing I've done.

Finished the movement from Unhallowed, let me know what you all think. It's not great, but it's the first work I've actually followed through to completion. Unfortunately, I can only export songs beneath 1 minute in length, so I had to speed it up a bit.

This all sounds so very Buddhist.

Not far off, considering crow is a taoist. I'm inclined to agree with him on this, though.

about drunkenness, has anyone ever tried to drink through his eye?  ::)

I think this fits all 3 criteria.

Personally, I've never felt an affinity towards drunkenness or destruction; I might qualify for disturbed though.

I'm much the opposite. I like competitive video games; DotA and CS:GO at the present, and I beat myself up quite a bit if I lose. Even if my team wins, I'll berate myself for sub-par performance. My friends always tell me to lighten up when we play. I'd say your friend is quite similar to me, really, but while I want myself to be an amazing player, he seems to already think he is one.

I can't give advice on how to have a flexible mind, I just do. There are very few things, if any, that I have rigid, black and white views on. I guess I can see the pros and cons of most things, and that of course makes choices much more difficult. I'd say I'm probably on the opposite end of the spectrum as you, aquarius, as it's not uncommon for me to change my opinion on something multiple times a week (like, say, my thoughts on the philosophical value of black metal). I'd not recommend that, though, as it leads to quite a bit of mental tumult. Maybe the averages of my views will set with time, and I'll be a bit more stable in my beliefs.

I'd also like to second what crow said. If anything, it's rare that I consider myself to be correct.

I'm going to be honest, I've felt lonely on a spiritual for most of my life. Even though I actually have a rather wide social circle and have a handful of good friends I feel like no-one I know sees the world like I do, shares my standards of morality, or reveres life in the same way I do. It depresses me to no end. If I had a single wish, it would be to live in a small town full of people who at least share my cultural values, even if they aren't neccesarily all 120+ IQ.

I agree with this, more or less.

For some people who do not have the capability to perceive true wisdom and wonder, life becomes difficult.

The only wonder I've experienced in life is when listening to black metal; and most of those artists either promote suicide or did it themselves.

2 more samples I've made, hopefully they'll show a bit of progression from the last ones I posted.
