Interzone / Re: Suicide
« on: June 07, 2013, 08:10:29 AM »
I've been on and off considering suicide ever since I was 12. First the deterrent was a lack of planning and opportunity, next was fear of dying (but not death itself), after which was fear of Hell, followed by empathy for my loved ones. Now, I'm not really sure what's holding me back; perhaps a mix of the last 3, in smaller quantities. I feel it's only a matter of time now, though I'm at a loss as to how long that is.

It requires some customization out of the box to get it looking half-way decent but it is unsurpassed as far as features go.  It also has a very lightweight memory footprint.  Anything uses more than 20mb of RAM just to play an mp3 is a bit absurd.

Does anyone run out of memory nowadays? Maybe from a programming standpoint it's commendable to have the program run efficiently, but I think the average computer can spare plenty more than 20 mb of RAM.

Which ones are you lacking?

* Good writer

I don't think I'm that good a writer, but I've been told otherwise by some people. This is a little subjective, but I don't think I can write at the standard of this site.

* Weekly at least one article

I couldn't make an insightful article every week, but I suppose if this includes things like concert announcements or metal news in general, that wouldn't be too taxing.

* Knows good metal from dreck

I listen to some stuff that would probably earn me a curb stomp if this community met me. I started listening to metal, if you could label bands like Korn and A7X as that, about 4 years ago. My tastes have obviously evolved quite a bit since then, but remnants of that past still remain, and many bands loathed here I still don't see as being that bad, if at all. I definitely haven't been studying this music for as long as the rest of you, though. Considering that a review of Soilwork was recently released here, and justified as being a "gateway" album, I could maybe contribute something to that side of the site. (Don't get the wrong idea, I don't find any 3 of the aforementioned artists to be decent)

* Self-directed

I'm rarely directed by anything, but if I made the commitment I'd definitely stick to it, or at least make an honest attempt.

I'd jump at this opportunity, had I any of those criteria met. Can articles be submitted without the author becoming a regular contributor? I think most of the people on these boards have one or two good articles in them.

One ordinary man went to see the devil. He told him that he wanted to sell his soul for fortune and glory and a video clip on mtv. The devil replied that he couldn't do it. The man asked him why. His answer was:
«you don't have a soul. Therefore, you cannot sell it to me».
-but mister devil, I will do everything for you. I will be your slave.
-how good is a slave if he's a total incompetent. You're good for nothing. sorry no deal.

the man return back home, took a beer and watch tv till the day he died.

That was a great story, no lie. I'm gonna tell that one from now on.

iTunes. Is that a faux pas?

Are there any other albums in the style of North From Here that this community supports? I've always seen it as a direct ancestor of Kalmah/CoB and all those other "twinkly" finnish melodeath/power metal bands.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but are all deathmetalheads homosexual?

It would certainly make sense for them to be, considering the skewed male/female ratio in the scene. Additionally, it would explain why they love Profanatica so much.

If you want the best of the best, check out Children of Bodom. Best DM band since Death.

Funnily enough, I was thinking about this very topic on my walk home tonight. I spend tons of time introspecting. I'm not quite sure what I'd do if not that. Probably something practical. I'll have to get back to you on whether or not I have a soul, though.

Either you guys don't know what porn is, or your libidos are far too strong.

(Yes, I'm basically agreeing with everyone on this).

Nothing wrong with this! The points made thus far have been convincing, and I think we can consider this topic resolved. Admittedly, I already believed and thought most of what was posted here, but seeing it rephrased by others has really helped me solidify those opinions and re-evaluate what I should expect out of a great metal album. Thanks, everyone.

At first, the haiku didn't fascinate me much. The commentary changed that. Hitting the precise spot between 2 axes seems to be the common thread that links archery and poetry.
