Metal / Saxon was inspiration for "Spinal Tap"

Let us now pay respect (well, a little) to Saxon, the not-so-great lost hope of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, which propelled Def Leppard and Iron Maiden to stardom in the early 1980s.

Saxon, which plays here Thursday, Oct. 3, at Ramona Mainstage, briefly seemed destined for fame, undaunted by a lack of vision and skill. Or, as I wrote in my U-T San Diego review of the band’s 1985 California Theater concert: “Saxon performed with all the ability and finesse of a group of roller derby contestants crashing into a wall.”

In hindsight, that was precisely the band’s charm, even if it eluded me at the time. Below are some other reasons I now have a fondness for Saxon, one of the inspirations for the classic 1983 film satire “This is Spinal Tap.” (Tap member Harry Shearer went on the road with Saxon to take notes, before filming began. He was especially impressed with original Saxon bassist Steve Dawson's trademark stage move, which found Dawson playing one open string on his bass with his right hand, while holding his left arm in the air, fist proudly clenched.)

Century Media Records is proud to announce the first ever official "complete recordings" release of TREBLINKA, one of most notorious death / black metal bands of all times.

TREBLINKA were founded in 1987 by Johan "Lucifer Hellslaughter" Edlund and Jörgen "Juck the Ripper" Thullberg. During the band's short existence of only two years, TREBLINKA have released two demo tapes and one 7inch EP. After the release of the last recording, the now infamous "Severe Abominations" EP, the band changed its name to TIAMAT and became one of the biggest and most influential metal bands of the 90ies.

Ever since then the entire TREBLINKA recordings have remained untouched by the band, just being heavily exploited by bootleggers all over the world.

But constant dripping finally wore the stone, so now the time is due to announce the release of "Shrine Of The Pentagram", the first ever fully authorized release of TREBLINKA since 1989.

"Shrine Of The Pentagram" will be released on October 7th, 2013 as a Kingsize 3CD Mediabook, a Deluxe 5LP box set with LP sized booklet as well as digital download.

Daniel Ekeroth, author of "Swedish Death Metal" has done an elaborate interview with Jörgen "Juck" Thullberg and Stefan "Emetic" Lagergren revealing many unknown details and a lot of entertaining side notes from the history of the band while Olivier Badin (writer for Terrorizer and Iron Fist) has interviewed Johan "Hellslaughter" Edlund for his view on the importance and influence of TREBLINKA.

Metal / Purtenance to release "Awaken from Slumber" in November
« on: October 02, 2013, 03:58:27 PM »
Nokia, Finland-based death metallers PURTENANCE will release their second album, Awaken From Slumber, on October 1st via Xtreem Music. A vinyl edition will be released in November.

After 2012's comeback EP Sacrifice The King which got mixed feelings from fans, the band not only continued working on new songs, but also added a second guitarist named Ville Nokelainen and entered studios in spring 2013 to record this new album, at the same time they offered their first shows in 20 years.

For those who expect a Member…II, they won't find it here. That album was done over 20 years ago with a different lineup. Awaken From Slumber shows the heaviest and darkest side of the band. This is how Purtenance sounds 2013. A fucking crushing, heavy and gloomy death metal with inhuman brutal vocals. Those who weren't satisfied with their previous EP should give it a listen to this new album cos they'll be gladly surprised!!

Awaken From Slumber tracklisting:

'What Was Hidden'
'Toxic Death'
'Field Of Terror'
'Vaikka Paahtuisin Tulessa'
'End For The Parasites (Called Humankind)'
'Hour Of The Cannibal'
'Temptation Of Suicide'
'Risen From Grave'
'Endless Abyss' (outro)

Just after the release of the album, Purtenance will play their very first show outside Finland at Ritual Zombi Fest, together with label mates AVULSED, DISSECT, CHRIST DENIED and ONIROPHAGUS, taking place October 12th in Madrid, Spain.

Metal / Cumbria's heavy metal baker who gets a buzz out of bees

Chris Barnes, of Hornsby ...[is]... employed as a baker, cooking up all manner of food at Dobbies Garden World at Orton Grange.

He’s also a devoted fan of heavy rock and spends many evenings at music concerts watching his favourite bands such as Iron Maiden and Metallica.

But perhaps the most surprising thing about Chris is that he is a fully qualified beekeeper and devotes much of his time to helping people set up their own hives.

Constructivism, as a perspective in education that explains how knowledge is constructed in the human being when information comes into contact with existing knowledge that had been developed by experiences. It has roots in cognitive psychology and biology and an approach to education that lays emphasis on the ways knowledge is created in order to adapt to the world. Constructs are the different types of filters we choose to place over our realities to change our reality from chaos to order. Von Glasersfeld describes constructivism as “a theory of knowledge with roots in philosophy, psychology, and cybernetics”.

Load of bullshit. If you believe this shit, you have no soul. No inner leanings. You're just a robot to be programmed..
