While I'm not a fan of the way she words it, I don't think it's all terrible.

While it is unproductive to blindly sit back and accept the bad (which upon first read of this article sounds like what she is suggesting), it is equally unproductive to spend all you're time trying to "fix" everything you don't like in place of spending time discovering and enjoying the things you do like.

Although I detest the thinking of "at least" scenarios.  It sets one up to to accept mediocrity and failure.

An example includes, "Sure I hate my job and loathe going to it everyday, but at least I have my health"

Heavy Metal Parking Lot is probably what you're looking for. It shows your typical metalhead in their natural element.

Nice troll.

Notice how he mentioned metalhead and not hessian. Two separate things as far as I'm concerned.

Nothing gets by you. Kudos.

Received mine as well. Found extra input from Fenriz and Varg very informative and insightful.

Extra footage from Frost was funny at first, but then became really annoying (11 minutes talking about "the darkness")

But I was surprised to find no extra footage about Emperor. I wonder if they didn't want to be a part of this movie?

Fenriz's "history of black metal" was amusing as well.

Well worth the money, and consider the dvd a quality piece.

One thing I haven't seen discussed on this topic is the differentiation between imposing eugenics on the not just the mentally inferior, but the physically inferior.  There are some whose body are part of a line of evolutionary ideal; perfect teeth, incredible resistance to disease, perfect eyesight, exceptional physical prowess as well as other strong genetic physical traits ideal for breeding.  Surely these are specimen that are of value to human evolution.

Would an ideal form of eugenics combine intellectual and physical superiority? Or just intellectual?  Obviously the best of both worlds would be ideal, but many who are have superior intellect are often physically deficient in some way (i.e.  Hawking with ALS).  I imagine the group of people with the intellect of Nietzsche or Hawking, but strong physical genetic background would narrow the gene pool down to a few thousand, but wondered if physical and immunological greatness in addition to intellect should be part of an ideal eugenics model.  Would it be productive to throw away those with great minds, but not genetically great bodies?

I agree with deadite though that if I had a tard, I'd want it dead.

Do you think it's realistic for an intelligent woman who had to harbor a tard baby for 9 months and give birth to it, to feel the same way?  I don't know if there are any women here to comment on this, but I would guess that there would be considerable resistance from the mother.

Well if you take extreme examples of a child  being born a vegetable or retarded, the argument to destroy the child is more clear cut. But 2 parents with IQ 120 producing a child with an IQ of 100, will likely not want to support a system that destroys a child whose IQ was once previously considered average.

I agree many humanistic viewpoints are a drain on human evolution, I think killing one's "average" child, for the sake of human evolution would be something few people of any IQ would be willing to accept practically.

Regardless, imposed genocide of the weak is impractical. Even on a maintenance level.

Say we somehow reduce the 7 billion people on earth to the best and brightest 200 million, regardless of race. Human breeding is imperfect. While the chances are small, 2 bright parents still have a chance of producing a not so bright child.  Is it really that practical to explain to the bright parents, "I'm sorry, but your child is stupid and will degrade the population if your child breeds. We must take it and destroy it" and the parents would be ok with this? Human breeding is too imperfect to maintain superior genetics. No matter how stupid a parent's child was, even the smartest parents would not be happy with their child being disposed of.  To expect this scenario to  play out, is too idealistic. Even the smartest humans put value on their child's life, even if their child is stupid.

Metal / Re: Bands that you want to see reviewed by DLA
« on: August 23, 2010, 05:05:26 AM »
I guess I don't understand the point of this.  These are bands that are easily accessible, so what value would posting reviews about bands/albums you have already heard have?  Do you need DLA to tell you what to think of Metallica (for example)?  I find the reviews useful to see a more thorough analysis of the bands that are less accessible. But really, you can find a Metallica review anywhere, we've all heard "Killem All". What's the point?

I have a distinct feeling that the kinds of people who rant against the usage of the term "hipster metal", and try to come across as "liking" every genre of music under the sun, aren't a part of any of those genres.  They have no specific allegiance, because they have no real understanding.  This has been said before, but I'll reiterate - to them, it's just music.

Exactly. From what I've observed, most hipster metal are full of musicians that are the jacks of all trades, but the masters of none.

Now is it just me, or did they put Frost from Satyricon in there just to make him seem really stupid compared to the others' interviews? I really liked that, it was an excellent joke.

He was laughable the ENTIRE time he was on screen, I don't see how anyone in their right mind could have taken him seriously.

If you notice during one of the interviews with Varg, while he was talking about the 2nd wave of church burners in the area, and how ridiculous they were; he says something to the effect of "How can anyone believe in this crap?" while the interview overlapped with a scene of Frost sitting in a chair with 2 idol-worshiping metal heads kneeling before him.  It was definitely a jab at Frost and other imitators.

If you actually read a little bit of the original report, the UN didn't (couldn't) say anything about recommending a vegan diet. But I think it's a little bit too big of a jump for most people to make to fight climate change. Most westerners shutter at the idea of having one meat-free day per week.

A movement to decentralize the western food system seems like a more logical and realistic choice.  The methods of factory farming are incredibly destructive to our health, the economy and the environment.

Brett, 29, Chicago. Masters in Dietetics student. I hated this site when I discovered it back in 2001, but I was intrigued as to why the reviewers hated some of my favorite bands at the time. Or should I say, it explained why I was getting tired of metal, and music in general, and offered insight into some music that doesn't age.

Of course this changed the way I looked at music which polarized my musical tastes with my Dimmu Borgir/Slipknot loving friends at the time.

Still kinda hate this site though, elite bastards... ;)
