Probably doesn't help that Sandoval shares an apartment with four other people and sleeps on a futon. Poor guy. This is what years of being someone's dog will do to you.

Seriously? Wow, that's depressing.

Yes unfortunately it's true. Pete was never the sharpest knife in the drawer, and Trey basically takes all of the profits. He owns houses and cars, then pays Pete an embarrassing wage. It's Pete's fault in the end though, as he continues to tolerate it.

Ergo, Onward to Golgotha day is April 1st! Everybody get ready!

This band deserves attention. They were always cool, but the new album is surprisingly nuanced and mature.

I s'pose the old boy can't quite pull it off anymore?  The Nespithe recording sessions probably took several years off his life!

I guess you didn't see them live in 2006. He can still pull it off just fine, but Winterwolf isn't his project to front. He's actually the most recent member.

I can't stand his vocals on Nespithe. They frustratingly take from what would otherwise be one of my favourite albums.

People who live and die by a label are sad.

Haha! But there's the problem - Aspies have a hard time getting their head around new ideas. So of course they'll be upset! Shoot them all, we've got more than enough people do take care of whatever it is they were doing.

Metal / Re: Averse Sefira: hype or reality?
« on: February 08, 2010, 10:59:27 PM »
Tastes aside, how do we define hype? Averse Sefira has respect and name recognition, but that's hardly the same thing. Take a look at a highly commercialized metal product like Behemoth or the empty style-metal released by Southern Lord, and it becomes clear that AS (and many bands like them) are not really hyped by definition. Some bands attract a dedicated and vocal fanbase, but it seems like these fans stick with the bands throughout their careers. That isn't hype, it's loyalty.

I think Immortal is a fucking joke and none of their albums should be taken seriously.

If you're not trolling, then you're out of your mind.

Metal / Re: Immolation reveal new album details

I think the answer is simpler - it's not as easy to make something new and inspired on album 9 as it is on album 1. I can say with certainty that whatever is motivating their current approach, it's not monetary. All the guys in the band work jobs and don't have any illusions about making a living on their music. They've asserted in numerous interviews that they stay around simply because they like doing it. The quality of their recent output can be debated, but I think their motives are honest.

Anticipation is high for this. Immolation came back into focus with "Shadows in the Light" and it seems like signing with Nuclear Blast is really pushing them to do something especially strong. Can't wait!

$3? Nice to see Nunslaughter is still such a massive draw after all these years.

This is why I don't believe in alien contact with humans. It would be this scenario:
Alien: "Greetings! We bring you the ageless knowledge of peace, enlightenment and..."
Humans: "AAAGH! Something we don't immediately recognize! KILL IT! KILL IT!"
Alien: "But..." (dies in hail of rocks and bullets)

Metal / Re: We are Hessians, not metalheads
« on: September 21, 2009, 12:13:30 AM »
Metalhead: "Out of all the choices of popular music to spend my time on, I've picked metal cause I think it's kind of neat"

Hessian: "Metal music speaks to my values, spirit and philosophy. I may have had the philosophy first, but the two are complementary, therefore this is the music and lifestyle and values system I pursue: a culture."

Or an even shorter variant:

Metalhead: "This is what I do for fun"

Hessian: "This is where I live"
