Metal overlords Iron Maiden have finally unveiled a ton of details about their forthcoming 15th studio album The Final Frontier, including an official release date, a new single available as a free download, a massive world tour kicking off this week... and a shocking new incarnation of Eddie, their beloved monster mascot. We've served up tons of  Maiden morsels for ya, so hit the jump and read on!

The band has just confirmed that The Final Frontier is now on track for release August 16th, but in the meantime fans can download the first single El Dorado at the band's official site. According to frontman Bruce Dickinson, the track will also be performed live on their upcoming Final Frontier World Tour, which kicks off tomorrow in Dallas. “We thought it would be great to thank all our fans and get them into The Final Frontier mood by giving them this song up front,” Dickinson announced. The epic 77-minute, 10-track album will also include titles like The Alchemist, The Talisman and Starblind.

1992: Born
1998?: One of my earliest memories is me singing Metallica's "Enter Sandman" to my family
2004: Emo/Screamo phase
2005: Still into emo/screamo mixed with Pantera, but also started listening to Job for a cowboy (which sort of laid out the idea of really heavy music to me) Between the buried and me, and related bands.
2006: Metalcore - If it was chuggy I was probably into it. Also shitty "Southern" metalcore.
2007: Dropped the metalcore all together. Got introduced to Morbid Angel, Demilich, DRI, Slayer,Suffocation, etc. Also introduced to hardcore punk. Got recruited as the bassist in my current band.
2009 - 2010: Started diving into Black Metal (Bathory, mayhem, burzum), and also into old Heavy Metal (Maiden, Judas Priest).

Attempting to dupilcate the older style of riffing, but it sounds like they have become their own tribute band similar to newer Judas Priest albums. They don't understand their music anymore, Trey dosen't have the passion, and Steve just wants to be a rockstar.

If by Steve you mean David Vincent, I agree completely.
Still shitty for Pete though even if MA have hit rock bottom, I'd hate to be in his position.

Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.

Not sure if this has been posted here, but interesting video and argument.

Toronto, Canada confirmed:
Starts Friday February 19th - 25th at The Royal
208 College St

Email from Audrey:

GOOD WORK YOU GUYS!!!

We got a week at the Royal, we'll be screening from Feb 19 - 25.  I'm
emailing a page size miniposter - these are great for store windows,
behind counters, on bulletin boards, street poles, wherever a larger
size can fit.  I'm also sending a page that has 4 flyers/page.  Some
people can't open this format, so I need to know if you can't.
Printing these at work/school is a good idea... it's heavy on the
black ink.  Let us know if you can't print them - maybe you can get
some from someone else.

I can't believe how hard to was to get this booked.  Now it's only 3
WEEKS away!  We usually spend 6 weeks promoting, so this is going to
take a hustle!  Please make sure you're hitting colleges and
universities, shows, coffee shops, galleries and museums, record
stores, comic book stores, alternative clothing stores, music gear
shops, and hitting this like mad online.  Facebook, twitter, myspace,
etc!

We'll try to do a tie-in with any record stores, online events listing
places, comic book stores or radio shows that you can think of.
Please send us a list of any places like this.  It doesn't have to be
metal, any kind of rock or independent music  or art or culture type
of thing is great.

The theater will handle print press, but if you have a zine or blog or
radio show or know someone who does, please send them our way!

Ok, here are the materials!  If you want to, you can post the area
you're covering on the facebook group, but ideally we'd want to have
each spot gone back to once a week to replenish materials.   So it's
ok if you go over each other's territory a bit.  If you want to see if
someone has already hit an area, just send a quick email to everyone
on this email (reply all).  If you do  "call" an area, make sure you
go!  We need these to start getting out there today!

Ok, so please send us that list, let us know if you have any trouble
opening these documents, and please let me know how it's going!

Thank you all very very much!
Audrey

Personally, I love the sound of metal - just as I love the sounds of gunfire, nature, and Beethoven.

Well said sir!!

Well said indeed!

I'm curious to know when Toronto is going to be put down on the list. As well as where it'll be shown, I can only think of one small theatre they'd play it at..
