Commerce / THE STAR GAME commercially available
« on: May 26, 2011, 01:10:38 PM »
The Australian ONA nexion, Temple of Them/Black Glyph Society, has – in association with The Game Crafter (a gaming version of self-publishing venture Lulu dot com) – produced the first commercially available version of The Star Game (TSG).
For information check out -
http://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/the-star-game-kit-2011
The game pack consists of seven colored cardboard boards; cards for each board listing septenary correspondences; 90 white and 90 black wooden cubes (approx. 1cm x 1cm) plus an instruction booklet and cards giving rule variations. The cubes are unmarked, and require the user to inscribe the appropriate alchemical symbols on them – which in itself enables the user both to personalize their acquisition and acquire some necessary familiarity with the symbolism.
This pack enables TSG to be played on a flat surface, as is, without the necessity of constructing a large physical 3 dimensional structure consisting of the seven boards arranged one above the other. As such, it will serve as a means of popularizing both the TSG and the ONA and is therefore both to be welcomed and commended.
While I have not, so far, seen the product first-hand, several independent reviews of The Game Crafter have praised the quality of the products produced. For example, " The cards and boards looked good, with the colors showing up well and the card stock being of good quality [...] The rules documents are very nicely printed in color." Source – http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/15/15213.phtml
Given the foregoing, this commercial version of The Star Game is recommended for both those interested in the theory and praxis of the Order of Nine Angles, and those who want to play what must surely be one of the most intellectually challenging games currently available.
There is however one minor caveat regarding this production of TSG. Which concerns the construction of the large 3 dimensional structure. Such a large physical structure – with the boards placed in a spiral as per the Tree of Wyrd – is essential to ESG as Esoteric Art, that is, The Esoteric Star Game as sorcery. Therefore, it would be good if some mention of this esoteric necessity of so constructing such a large physical structure could, in future versions, be somewhere included in this commercial game version, imparting thus the knowledge that this game pack is but an introduction, and invitation, to ESG as esoteric sorcery, as outlined at
http://antonlong.wordpress.com/2010/12/09/the-esoteric-star-game/
where it is stated:
The ESG was designed to be a physically large structure – to occupy a certain amount of causal Space – so that the Adept or Adepts (the player or players) have to physically move around it in order to see all the boards and pieces, and in order to move the pieces.

Commerce / EMANATIONS 2011
« on: May 26, 2011, 01:06:21 PM »
The Black Glyph Society is now accepting deposits on pre-orders of our most anticipated release yet – Emanations by Christos Beest.
This release, with permission from the artist, will include approx 40 high-resolution quality cards by Christos Beest that include his 21 major arcana of the original Sinister Tarot, the published court cards, and rare alternate versions. Other images may be included. It will be accompanied by a professionally printed full-colour booklet and wrapped in a custom embroidered, Order of Nine Angles, tarot bag.
The Black Glyph Society has already secured wholesalers for this item and it is expected to sell out very quickly given the enormous interest in Mr Beest and his Tarot.
While the price is yet to be announced - This is a not to be missed opportunity to get a high-quality luxury set of the original Sinister Tarot. Associates of THEM and ONA are requested to make a $30 (Australian Dollars) deposit to reserve a set of Emanations as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. For Family - A discount may be offered. Enquiries from the general public are also welcomed.
Please contact ThoTh at Templeofthem@yahoo.com with the subject `Emanations'.

"No point having a master race if you can’t even keep tabs on continuity of appearance. "
Reminds me so much of corporate America.

Quote
The definition of "meat" was amended in December 1994 to include any "meat" product that is produced by advanced meat/bone separation machinery. This meat is comparable in appearance, texture, and composition to meat trimmings and similar meat products derived by hand. This machinery separates meat from bone by scraping, shaving, or pressing the meat from the bone without breaking or grinding the bone. Product produced by advanced meat recovery (AMR) machinery can be labeled using terms associated with hand-deboned product (e.g., "pork trimmings" and "ground pork").
The AMR machinery cannot grind, crush, or pulverize bones to remove edible meat tissue, and bones must emerge essentially intact. The meat produced in this manner can contain no more than 150 milligrams (mg) of calcium per 100 grams product (within a tolerance of 30 mg. of calcium). Products that exceed the calcium content limit must be labeled "mechanically separated pork" in the ingredients statement.

We can redefine "food" too! Now it's "meat," not random bits of animal paste!

Commerce / ANCIENT "Svartlvheim" re-issued by LISTENABLE RECORDS

Svartalvheim » is a part of the black metal history, ambient, powerful and magical atmosphere being real close to filth and darkness. This deals with the origins of true Black Metal. « Svartalvheim » is not that blasting but based on atmospheres : the heavy metal riffs combined with acoustic riffs gives this first album an original and epic side. The raw production is perfect for the style and ANCIENT's « Svartalvheim » has become a must have for fans of true Black metal without being as extreme as some other bands prove. Cult !

Metal / Reclaiming (or Replacing) Metal
« on: May 22, 2011, 04:54:30 PM »QuoteOver the past few years, we metallers have seen our special sigil—the goat horn—stripped of its significance (i.e., magical power) by clueless celebrities (Miley Cyrus gets it wrong first then gets it right second) and pop culture junkies looking add ‘edge’ to their persona. That ‘edge’ they seek is, or rather was, ours. True, I’ve seen movie and television stars in Maiden, Priest, and Baroness shirts, but it’s hard to tell if they, like us, revere those bands like gods or are meddling in mundane hipster irony. Probably the latter. Occasionally, the Earth parts and I feel ‘good’ about peeps in high places repping the darkest of metals—often willingly exposed by dB’s Closet Metalhead feature (see Jeanne Fury’s Cee Lo Green intie)—but usually my suspicions are confirmed. Dorks like Lindsay Lohan, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, and Kid Rock show the maloik, as popularized by the late great Ronnie James Dio, for no other reason than to appear ‘dangerous’. Milk in cereal poses a greater threat.QuoteSo, maybe it’s time we retire the maloik and the reverse maloik.
We’ll have to be intensely creative to come up with something new. Options are damned sparse. We’ll have to avoid sign language configurations—don’t want our new sigil to unintentionally translate to ‘cucumber’ or ‘fail’—and gang sign configurations—don’t want to be gunned down outside a club (hello, Harpo’s in Detroit) for hoisting our new digit designation—in our pursuit of a replacement for the oft-misused maloik. Whatever we come up with, just don’t let it be the Witchery ‘W’.

Does this symbol formerly used by metal heroes lose or have any value when hollywood celebrities and hipsters misuse it as a petty means for teenage rebellion? I don't know if I agree with Decibel that a new symbol needs to be devised as it is easy enough to reroute any symbol's meaning, but I can't help but feel that it's association with metal is being diminished with its use. This leads me to question whether metal still needs this symbol?
Some metallers have been diverting to a more offensive symbol, that you are unlikely to see many celebrities and hipsters use in public, but I don't see this as becoming a substitute for saluting metal.
What do you think? Are the "horns" still relevant?
The more important quest for me:
In 1995, alternative rock took over metal.
In 2000, emo/progressive hardcore took over metal.
In 2005, indie/post-rock took over metal.
When do we reclaim metal for metal's sake?
Metal is a unique culture, not some flavor that can be added to such variations on the usual as post-rock, hardcore, rock, alt-rock, indie, etc.

Chasm / International Day of Slayer -- June 6, 2011
« on: May 21, 2011, 06:45:15 PM »Quote
The Inter-National Day of Slayer is coming up on June 6, 2011.
The International Day of Slayer is a worldwide holiday for metalheads by metalheads.
Slayer is an emblem of metal: fast, powerful, still alien to the mainstream after 28 years.
If every other religious, ethnic and political group gets their own holiday, we deserve one too.
On June 6th:
Who is Slayer
Slayer is a band from California. Their music has come to epitomize Satanic speed metal music in the latter half of the 20th century. Their 1986 album, "Reign in Blood" is one of the single most influential metal albums of all time, typified by the modern classic "Angel of Death".
How to Celebrate
* Listen to Slayer at full blast in your car.
* Listen to Slayer at full blast in your home.
* Listen to Slayer at full blast at your place of employment.
* Listen to Slayer at full blast in any public place you prefer.
DO NOT use headphones! The objective of this day is for everyone within earshot to understand that it is the National Day of Slayer. National holidays in America aren't just about celebrating; they're about forcing it upon non-participants.
Taking that participation to a problematic level
* Stage a "Slay-out." Don't go to work. Listen to Slayer.
* Have a huge block party that clogs up a street in your neighborhood. Blast Slayer albums all evening. Get police cruisers and helicopters on the scene. Finish with a full-scale riot.
* Spray paint Slayer logos on churches, synagogues, or cemeteries.
* Play Slayer covers with your own band (since 99% of your riffs are stolen from Slayer anyway).
* Kill the neighbor's dog and blame it on Slayer.
