Metal / Re: Black Metal Recommendations.
« on: October 17, 2010, 09:06:17 PM »
I was just wondering if anyone could recommend some good black metal albums. I really enjoy:

Trelldom (Both albums)
Gorgoroth (all albums with Gaahl on vocals & quantos possunt Ad Satanitatem trahunt)
Emperor (All)
Absu (All)
Watain (Sworn to the dark)

There are a TON more but I am tired right now and don't feel like listing them all. I have really been getting into the Trelldom albums lately which is what brought me to write this post.

All recommendations welcome! THANKS!

Well early gorgoroth would be a good start, since you like them already.  Listen to some of the "best of black metal" on the dark legions archive.

i like beer that is brewed in house at pubs and restaurants, they have a way better flavour.  Bottled and canned just doesnt cut it, so i keep it simple, and cheap = Molson Canadian, Kokanee, and Budweiser. Favorite whiskeys are Jack and Jim

Back when i was in high school there was certain classes for those who slowed down the learning process of their peers in regular classes.  Kind of the same with different math classes, there is the regular one, and one that is practically the bare minimum( easiest to pass).  Which in the end attracts the distracteed, and "dumber" kids, which keeps the other classes learning at the rate they are supposed to.  I dont think it is fair to say though that if there is one slow kid in the class, the entire class suffers, that has just never been the case in the schools i have been in.  The class proceeds at the pace it is supposed to be at, and for those who are left behind(if they give a shit) come in for extra work, help, after school help etc.  I guess the problem is the ones who dont value education, the ones who just stay in the class and fuck everything up on purpose(messing with the teacher etc.).  If you have kids like this that dont want to learn, and cant accept the help that is offered, then they shouldnt even be in school.  They should be placed  in, like i said before, more disciplinary schools.

Lowering someone's self esteem cant possibly be a good idea, instead teachers should be searching for the talents within the distracted unfocused kids.  I wasnt the best in school at all, i was never a shit disturber by any means, or a bad apple, but i lacked focus.  Great teachers angle your focus back to the important factors of education.  Alot of kids i knew hated school because it was another place to get abused, be it verbally and what not.  The kids that are just bad apples, well they should just be thrown into a more "disciplinary" school.  One less asshole kid, gives a teacher loads more attention to those who need the help, and less distraction for the ones who are easily distracted.

I friend i met travelling in Norway visited Finland for awhile, he was a punk, so we didnt share a whole lot of interest in the same music except maybe Slayer, Black Flag, Motorhead and Venom.  He sent me an email telling me that

"if you like Metal you should travel to Finland, within moments of stepping off of the boat first person I see is a guy wearing your bathory t-shirt(goathead)"

I like the vocals, it reminds me of War Command(blood upon the altar) - Blasphemy. That hellishly demonic incomprehensible chanting!

I suppose I won't listen to Legion in a long while, and haven't for more than 10 years. Archgoat's "Light Devouring Darkness", Morbosidad's "Profana la Cruz del Nazareno" and Excoriate's "On Pestilent Winds" are contemporary classics and I listen to them on daily basis. It's true they could never hold such an importance as, for instance, DDTM, but I like listening to this kind of metal and support quality "variations on the theme". You may say Archgoat's and Morbosidad's blasphemies are sad excuses for lyrics, but the atmosphere they manage to create in this simplicity is astounding. Pure alchemy.

I am probably one of the few who will agree that i find Archgoat's atmosphere black as the abyss.  I have only heard Whore of the Bethlehem so far, but im going to give Light Devouring Darknes a shot.  I think for this kind of metal, the lyrics are the LEAST important part, its all about the atmosphere created.

I think for me it boils down to : would i rather double click, scroll and click etc. through menus to get to my music, or dig through vinyls/cd/tapes pick one, open it up and take out the disc/tape/record that is about to grace my ears.  I appreciate the "full package" that comes with music.
