Man, that Manilla Road album , Crystal Logic was a snooze fest.  They totally rip off one of Angel Witch's songs riff for riff.  I will give the next Manilla Road album a listen though to see if things improve.

I just went through all the pages in this thread, wow , its funny to see what bands i was into even just two years ago.  I got a bit of chuckle out of the Black Witchery defense I attempted to give. Man that band has gotten more boring than ever.  I see they now copy the on-stage fashion of their idols Blasphemy, i guess the robes got a little gay or something.

I wanted to get some insight on Manilla Road, I've heard some great things about them and apparently all their albums are top notch, but those could be lies and maybe they only have one outstanding album.  Also im a big fan of King Of The Dead, Court In The Act, Angel Witch's S/T and Crimson Glory if anyone has any other recommendations for Heavy Metal albums of that greatness!

Reminds me of NWN/FMP (same label at this point).

Most obscure shit is obscure because it blows. No offense, Ara. (haha)

If you're going to pick the best of DM... pick the best and don't give a shit about what others think.

It depends what you call obscure, I may not. Who said anything about obscurity anyways?

Infester is obscure, would you not tell someone new to Death Metal that they have to hear that album?

There are some diamonds in the rough.

Dead Infection - A Chapter of Accidents is so over the top, I love it. They are definitely at the end of the gruesome spectrum for Grindcore.

I wish they cut out the 911 calls, the police talk, and that super lame phone call from the girlfriend everything that was not music, it didn't add anything to the music.  In other words if you have the EP your not missing much

Hey thanks for the replies, i will look into those bands you mentioned Annihilation.  I don't think these lists are best to worst or anything just randomly thrown together.

Ya i didn't have high expectations for that Luck of the Corpse album but it definitely blew me away.  I really like the drumming on it, it has absolutely no consistence at all it is constantly morphing and changing but still keeps the pace and doesn't sound random.  The vocals also sound really good, on some of the following albums I find King's voice to be kind of stretched out and too raspy. I am very pleased I finally got around to that one!

Wombbath i found in the back of that Swedish death metal book, looked em up, saw that cover and downloaded it immediately.  I like the way the vocals are in rhythm with the riffs and the fact that the dude sounds like early Hypocrisy's singer.  I hope that record gets a repressing sometime soon!

Anyways if there are some on their you haven't heard give em a listen and let me know what you think.

Metal / Picking through "Best Of OSDM" lists

I have been looking back in time for some great old muddy death metal in the same spirit as Considered Dead and Mental Funeral  and I have come across lists that are in the hundreds. It seems there are an endless supply of these "best of old school death metal album" lists out there.  Now im certain about at least 50 % of these lists are no good and the user put them on there for some cult points or something but I am still compelled to chip through them.

So far I found a few that I have been enjoying:

Gorefest - Mindloss(1991)
Morta Skuld - As Humanity Fades(1994)
Deceased - Luck of The Corpse(1992) <- I had put off listening to this one for a long time, im glad I gave it a try!
Wombbath - Internal Caustic Torments(1993) <- i knew about this one prior to my search, this one was a real treat for me and was just what I was looking for, sick gruesome twisty riff atmosphere.

Anyways here are the lists I was looking at that someone had made.

Take a look and tell if there is any you know of/have heard that are worthy of a listen. Please indulge me with your opinions and views on some of these.  I have heard most of the albums that are reviewed on the DLA.

I think more or less what someone could learn from a guy like GG Allin is that, if he goes on stage and eats his own shit to piss people off and get them away form him, we should have no problem grabbing a mound of horseshit and throwing it at an enemy... not sure if that makes sense.. Its like, if you lose a fight , spit your blood at the guy who drew it or your getting bullied at school, come to school the next day with a paper bag of shit and rub it in the bully's face so he smells like shit the whole day.  I dont know, GG Allin was an inverted human being.

I recently watched the Hated : GG Allin Documentary, and asked myself is there really anything beneficial that could come from those types of actions and world views?

Is there anything one could possibly learn from delving into the shit abyss that is being drunk and disorderly and completely disregarding social norms?

Sometimes I implode and act like a fucking maniac and it feels good from time to time to blow off the steam.

My question is, How are we supposed to legitimately show that we are feeling repressed, angry and tired of the bullshit we are bombarded with on a daily basis, when any action of rebellion is tied to fines or "public disturbance"?  How do we cause/announce our problems and not be apart of the governments master plan?

I would like to take back my slandering of this band.  I was a complete DOUCHE for saying this band was crap.  That video really did, and still does turn me off big time but Mortal Repulsion is a fucking solid album.  Finally gave it a proper listen today because I needed to hear some new death metal.
