Born Again - Neverending Fire 7" Vinyl
"Born Again is a female-fronted Heavy Metal band led by none other than Crystal Viper's Leather Wych herself, Marta Gabriel. Anyone who has heard Crystal Viper knows she's one of the most powerful singers, male or female, in metal today and she is in fine form on Neverending Fire. In fact, it is worth it just for her gritty bellowing. Fortunately the lyrics seem to be focused on social and personal topics so we aren't dealing with the second coming of Stryper. The first track, "Neverending Fire," is a mid-paced rocker very much in the Doro mold. Big guitars, big vocals and an almost epic, if more rock, chorus. "One Question", my favorite of the two songs, picks up the pace and heaviness significantly. It blasts out of the speakers and Marta screams her lungs out. This one is more in line with what we've heard from Crystal Viper. The rest of the band, bassist Martin Albrecht, formerly of Mystic Prophecy, Majesty guitarist Bjorn Daigger, and Crystal Viper drummer Tom "Golem" Danczak, have the musical chops to keep pace with Gabriel's vocals.
I really like Neverending Fire and there can't be too many good female fronted METAL bands for my taste. And while I love Symphonic and Gothic Metal as well, there are simply far too many bands out there playing these styles. Fans of Crystal Viper, Doro and straightforward, excellent Heavy Metal would do well to check out Born Again. I hope to see a full-length that raises a bar already set high by Neverending Fire." --The Metal Crypt

Trouble's recording history in the '90's began with two albums for Def Jam, namely "Trouble" followed by "Manic Frustration". After that, Rick Rubin, Def Jam's owner, got into some serious financial trouble. And Trouble found themselves with no deal. This was the time, 1994, when the legendary "One for the Road" demo was published. Guitarist Rick Wartell tries to reconstruct the whole story: "When we recorded 'One for the Road' in 1994, the deal for the 'Plastic green Head' album was already in place. So why did we record that? Pre-production?" His colleague Bruce Franklin knows better: "Yeah, I think we were just seeing what we had. Every tour we do, we see all these people with different kinds of bootlegs. We thought, what the hell, man, all these people are making money off us. We were not making money, so we decided to bootleg ourselves. We recorded a demo, printed 1,500 copies, sold it for cash right there on the road, and for once we made money ourselves. The record company did not make money, the bootleggers did not make money, we did." Was it all "Plastic green Head" material on "One for the Road"? Bruce: "Two songs ended up on 'Plastic green Head', I think. 'Requiem' and 'Going home'. No, 'Going home' was on 'Simple Mind Condition'. 'Another Day' was the other one." "The rest would be exclusive then", adds Rick. "The songs were recorded in a studio, it wasn't a great studio, so it wasn't album quality, but still good. A good demo - that's all."
The mentioned "One for the Road" demo was also published on the two CD's "Demos & Rarities", part one spanning 1980-1995 and part two 1984-1994. What about those CD's? "Actually, we took those CD's from the bootleggers", laughs Rick Wartell. Bruce explains: "It was literally a bootlegger's release. We got in touch with him and basically said: 'If we see you, we will kill you'. He said: 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry'. And then he sent us all the copies he had." So White Stallion Records was the original bootleg label? Bruce: "Yes. We talked to the man and told him how unhappy we were." Rick: "And then we heard that he started bootlegging someone else. There is some very early stuff on there." Talking of bootlegs, the earliest ever Trouble bootleg must probably be the live Chicago vinyl recorded in 1983, the one with the fantasy artwork on coloured vinyl. "Oh yeah, I've seen it", remembers Bruce Franklin. "I think that is a bootleg of our live recording." Rick: "Ah, that's a good one." "We have the original tape of that", states Bruce. "It is not a bootleg from a fan, it is from us." Rick: "Wow, we should put that one out on vinyl, too. We used to sell that tape, the tape was around everywhere. So somebody out there must have decided to do it on vinyl." There is some exclusive stuff on there, Trouble covering Accept's "Son of a Bitch" and even "Confused" by Angel Witch. "Yep, that's it", finds Bruce. Rick: "On that same tape we also did 'Children of the Grave'." Bruce knows better: "No, we played it at the show but it was not recorded because we were running out of tape. That was the very last song of the set."

On their second collaboration, the Swedish duo also pays homage to the hypnotic and substantial power inherent within this genre. The viscid and elegiac riffs, as well as the doom metal foundation created by the dragging and purposely monotonous drums, make way for perfectly placed folk elements and haunting vocals. Ragnar plays with disparate vocal lines and coloring in order to communicate the oppression and hopelessness oozing out of the compositions. The songs in turn intensify into epic journeys that pull the listener inexorably into Ereb Altor's world. "The End" is a dark work of art, to which lovers of doom will unequivocally succumb.

MINOTAUR formed in 1983 and managed to record 3 demo's before their debut album "Power of Darkness" finally arrived in 1988. "Power of Darkness" was/is an album to be worshiped by everyone into extreme 80s German Thrash metal; crushing riffs, total devotion and the ability to write both raw and catchy material - something seldom found in metal of today!
Originally released on the now defunct "Crazy Records" and impossible to find this re-issue features a couple of brand new bonus tracks

Taken from the upcoming album "The Time of No Time Evermore", the song "I'll Be Your Ghost" deals with insane worship and desperate, obsessive love and will serve as the multitude's first taste of the album. As a B side THE DEVIL'S BLOOD returned to The Void Studios again to record a rehearsal and from that recording the song "Voodoo Dust" was chosen. In a 12 minute version this song, originally released on last year's "Come, Reap" EP, is a very raw and unrefined, live in the studio version of the song, chosen for emotion and gusto rather then for perfect execution, and will give it a new face for some.

Two respected underground heavyweights pair up on "Dawn Of The Catalyst". Australia's Grey Daturas have built a solid following over the last few years through constant touring worldwide with artists like Neurosis, Wolf Eyes and Yellow Swans (having also released splits with the latter two). Their combination of sonic style guitar-improv freakouts with more down-tuned doomed ambiance and all out noise has attracted fans from all dank corners of underground music. France's female-fronted Monarch is that country's entry into the slo-mo nihilistic utterly oppressive doom genre where they've distinguished themselves from their peers in both sound and aesthetics. On "Dawn Of The Catalyst" each band contributes one extended track (over 16 minutes long each!), both veering to the more experimental, droning, lurching side of their collective persona's. A split to be felt more than simply heard, it requires full volume and full bass frequencies for maximum effect.
