Metal / Metal zine writer's book
« on: October 17, 2004, 10:39:25 AM »
Jon Konrath is proud to announce that he has released his fourth book, entitled _Dealer Wins: Misadventures in the New Las Vegas_. It's a 158-page collection of travel essays, articles, and photos of various visits to Las Vegas. It includes five trip reports, which were re-edited for the book, plus four new essays, and tons of photos.

A bunch of stories are covered in the book, from skydiving to rollercoasters to machine guns to sports cars to the crappy rooms at Circus Circus to accidentally flooding a Rain Man suite at Stardust to the infamous tale about why the author is not allowed to eat at Smith and Wollensky anymore.

The book is available from lulu.com at http://lulu.com/jkonrath and you can visit http://rumored.com/dealerwins for more info. It has a UPC/ISBN and will be distributed by Ingram and will be available at online booksellers like Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and so on. It is
available immediately at lulu for $9.99 plus shipping/handling.

Lulu is also re-releasing his first book _Summer Rain_. It is now available with the real front cover that it was intended to have, in the same 6x9" size but at only 500 pages instead of 660 due to a better layout. It is available for $16.95 only at lulu and will not be at Amazon or other places. (It has no bar code/ISBN.)

"Convicted" and "Money Talks" in full MP3:

http://www.vacarme.net/nightman/musique/artistespreferes/crypticslaughter/

This thrash band were one of the founders of the genre, taking punk riffs and putting them in metal songs that were fast, short, abrupt and violent. "Convicted" in parts sounds like a death metal album. These were recently released by Relapse records, but are now seemingly hard to find, so it is excellent that someone has put them online in this format.

If you haven't heard this band, remember that this is an ancestor of most of today's grindcore and death metal.

We're a group of musicians from Québec. We're Hardcore influenced by thrash and speed metal, in French Canadian language! Thought of the day: It is necessary that the United States destroys their weapons of massive destruction (military, economic, media and soul-destroying) which threaten our lands, our water, our culture and our language.

Metal / Sacramentum - rumors of return
« on: October 15, 2004, 11:01:59 AM »
SACRAMENTUM stands for pure black/death metal  and let their music be the channel to display their thoughts and values.

http://biphome.spray.se/anders.brolycke/sacramentummain.htm

(This band is rumored to have resumed activity. We can only hope. They produced at least two great albums and several of a death/black/speedmetal hybrid style that were musically competent, if missing some of the passion of earlier works.)

Metal / What is black metal, as art?
« on: October 14, 2004, 07:39:25 PM »
I defined it like this earlier: "Emotional detachment without apathy." Sounds a bit like nihilism, doesn't it?

Add to this an obsession with the occult, which in a historical view is a term applied to any belief system in which both good and evil can be used to further one's aims. That sounds like emotional detachment without apathy.

But is there a way to summarize it, in the abstract and not 100% exact, in a paragraph?

There's about ten billion of late, but I haven't seen a broad survey of what's out there. Can you list some favorites, and then your own site, if you have one?

(Obviously, I am not going to list sites with which I work... redundancy)
