Metal / Re: Averse Sefira Breakup!?

This is sad news insofar as A-S  being one of very few functioning Black Metal bands I honestly cared about all that much about any longer. At the same time, the news is joyous that they maintain integrity to the end, and bow out gracefully and with honor!  I shudder to even imagine A-S devolving into something akin to the excrutiatingly persistent dullardry of Darkthrone or some such - perish the thought!!!

In many ways, for me, this is like unto the final(if overdue) nail in the Black Metal coffin - but it was an intersting ride.

I'm old...I still miss the days when we strictly complained about Posers, False-Metal and the like.

I've never been able to get through a whole song, let alone a whole album.

This sums up my entire experience with this post "BM." After about two or three minutes I invariably lose all interest. Agalloch, Krallice, WITTR...friends have been trying to sell me this stuff for years - alas, I have not appetite for it; it bores me to tears!

Didn't ditch its underclass -- Jews were actually as a whole one of the wealthier groups in Germany.
But they also tried to exterminate the Slavs, which ultimately caused them to get raped by Russia.

This is nonsense. Hitler viewed many the Slavs in general as being inferior to Germanics, but there was no plan, nor action ever carried out to "try to exterminate the Slavs." Many a Slav may have perished in the war on the Eastern Front, but they died in battle, as partisans, criminals, etc. For goodness sake, the Wehrmacht employed a small legion of Slavic Russian prisioners/volunteers (HiWi's) to assist them throughtout the war - most were exterminated by Stalin after the war for their efforts.

Retards? Disabled? Just throwing up a possibility.
I'm no historian.

That was hardly the cause of National Socialist Germany's decline either. If the war cost Germany anything it was its best and brightest lost on the field of battle. Ridding itself of various undesirables was certainly not a net negative.

Awful - even worse live.

Paint by numbers albums indeed.... the difference is that it sounds like they had fun playing the Terrorizer one, while Napalm Death sounds like it was recorded in a cubicle.

Seems to sum it up!!

I've listened to it two times tonight, and it is getting better each time. My biggest faulting was primarily in the production. I would listen to the demo, then this, and the muddy, mushy tone in this tended to obscure the nuances. Perhaps I was simply expecting it to sound like the demo, and when it did not, I shut down to it. I need to stay away from the demo for a while so I can become accustomed to the sonics of this release without constantly judging once against the other. The issue I had with Cruciamentum's new shit was similar in some ways.

This has added perspective on how brilliant releases in the glory days I was not apart of would be overlooked or misjudged. It is helping me grow as a listener.

It will always amaze me how differently we "hear" music. I love the production on this album! It somehow fits the band's sound perfectly to me. I have to admit, I also liked the demo recording, so perhaps the material itself just resonates with me to a level beyond production values...I don't know.

Sounds great, honestly. NY Death Metal as it should be...

Christ...how many times can these older bands write the same paint-by-numbers albums? The same songs??  Both the videos in the link were instantly mind-numbing!! Truth be told, I've never really loved either band(nothing from ND after the 80s), but that's beside the point !

The last time or two I had seen Suffocation, Smith seemed altogethr uninspired with the whole affair. His playing didn't shine at all - nothing like seeing him back in the early 90's. He has also made various comments in recent years that suggest he expected recognition well beyond the realities of the type of music he/they played.

Here Ross and Bob from Immolation put forward a realistic view of where DM fits in the recognition/stardom spectrum at about the :35 mark:

Nice review 'Rapist. I feared this would be the case, though I really enjoyed "Death...The Brutal Way"  Back to the review,  I especially like the slap at the "We're Asphyx...you're all shit" baloney - that type of crap MAY have flown in 1987 or so...but now it smacks of a death-metal Manowar and is just silly for band whose best work is older than many of their modern fans.

Metal / Re: DEP is stupid music and not metal
« on: March 02, 2012, 01:30:53 AM »
That is the way I've always viewed it. When I first heard that style of music I thought, "oh terrific, it's technical Nu-metal...making an already abominal rip-off of metal even more obnoxious..." I figured it was a fad that would die quickly and horribly. Sadly, I once again underestimated the near total lack of taste and appreciation of art on the part of so many.

I only see the species moving backwards.

Other than technology, where are we moving "forwards"?

Outside of political goals like universal equal freedom and stuff.
