Metal / Re: Metal gets a makeover
« on: August 15, 2006, 08:40:55 PM »
There is an undenaible irony at work here, concerning the media/mainstream. As already stated above it is they who have defined Metal(inaccurately of course) for years as a purely hedonistic, mindless, noisy rebellion against nothing. Now they have the gall to announce a "makeover" that they, by and large, again shall define, allowing them to celebrate the supposedly newfound social conscience of a genre they know nothing about. And of course, with all the "humanitarian" metal of today abounding, they have their useful idiots ready to quote and trot out at will.
For Fuck's sake...making a legitimately paleo-conservative statement would be about the only "rebellion" these clods would recognize, as(non-underground) "Metal" now marches in virtual lock-step in their tired anti-west, anti-Bushisms...To confront them with the utter folly of their materialistic/humanistic foolishness(not to mention how closely aligned they actually are, despite their protestation, with the neocon right) would be like addressing the implausibility of religion with the thoroughly devout.
I suspect the "powers that be" will completely misinterpret(perhaps intentionally)the press release and simply dismiss it as so much "intolerance." Which, I suppose is the point, in a way ;)

Metal / Re: Lost aspects of Hessian culture?
« on: August 15, 2006, 08:02:33 PM »
I'm finding that heavy metal culture needs to remove its sandaldude-xtian moralizing. Long before leftist emo/nu-metal, metalheads were made of sterner stuff. Lose the social issues and moralizing, regain power ideals.

Absolutely! The Metal-with-a-(social)conscience phenomenon sickens me. Even back "when," the Nuclear Assault/Anthrax/Megadeth, Punkish  whining about inequality and espousal of rank egalitarianism irritated me endlessly(probably why I gravitated toward the darker material musically and ideologically). I see self-professed Black Metal-heads on other boards who are nothing more than bleeding-heart college kids who bemoan every alleged social-ill and humanitarian "crisis" on earth. Such emotionalism is hideously out of step with the Ubermensch philosophies of classic BM and DM.
When I was a teen in the eighties, we Metalheads/Hessians were indeed made of sterner stuff(perhaps necessarily so). Over the years this emo-leftist-humanitarianism has fouled the Metal waters in a disturbing way.
Any collective Hessian 'culture' must unapologetiacally reject such mainstream, compassionate nonsense...at one time I thought that's what we were all about.

Egalitarianism indeed! Black Metal is saturated with the very mediocrity that the egalitarian folly promotes every where it is employed. As already noted, now nothing technically separates the wheat from the chaff. For every new BM project that is listenable, one must sift through a disconcerting abount of junk.
Perhaps, this is a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts. The anti-social nature of BM necessitates, to some degree, a lack of collaboration opportunity, etc. which can be useful in creating quality art. It is possible that this is both a blessing and curse, so to (artistically) speak.
