Chasm / Re: Some blue eyed dude stashed weed for 27 centuries
« on: September 29, 2010, 05:45:49 PM »I've never seen any problem with making use of substances which cause desired effects, so long as the desired effects are a means to something more important. Smoking weed is quite the enabler of a meditative state (indeed, that's what marijuana is used for by some Saddhus). I prefer Salvia, since it's legal, faster, and probably less dangerous than the ever-so-slightly dangerous cannabis (which, in turn, is less dangerous than the really-pretty-dangerous alcohol).
Really? The one or two times I've tried Salvia I did not enjoy it at all. The high is extremely intense (though short lived); I could see someone who may be too gullible or naive doing something really terrible while on that stuff.
I don't think that is an issue, unless you are driving. It is totally incapacitating for it's brief duration, some people can't even stand up on the stuff. However I would say it could cause you some serious psychological damage if you already have existing anxiety issues or depression, then again - so will any drug.
My experience with salvia was particularly disturbing and basically scared me away from drugs for good.

You may have saved me a 3 hour trip then, thank you.
What about Immolation for that matter? I will almost certainly be seeing them in October, with Vader.
Ohh yeah, I should add that I am of the opinion that everything after Unholy Cult is penis devouring (although I should probably give Shadows more then a cursory listen...).

Im interested in knowing what a live performance from Rotting Christ is like these days. I may have an opportunity to see them on their North American tour, but I am not sure the long journey would be worth it if they mostly play newer material.

I think it may be possible, but has yet to be accomplished.
Interesting question.
Interesting question.

Black Bitchery is pure fucking garbage. Fuck this band a thousand fold.
fuck fuck fuck fuck, ect
Profoundly simple trem'd inverted power chords placed at the most predictable intervals, witch then follow text book patterns. Laughingly obvious lack of content, sterile songs, blablalalablalba.
I don't need to go on, 100% of their popularity was due to how 'soooper XxgrimXx" the band members looked in their hoods and cloaks.

I think that Lost Wisdom (song) captures beautifully in 4 minutes what early Absurd was always striving for. Blutgericht is outstanding though.

Massive amounts of television, video games, internet, other forms of media probably fuck with your grey matter, not surprising that those I know who are avid media whores have zero capacity for self introspection and accurate assessments of self. "Socializer/Socialized types" as I have seen them called on this forum, quite likely are crippled in this area of the brain? It's worth looking into.

Metal / Re: Functions of Gore
« on: September 24, 2010, 09:58:48 PM »
I think it's silly trying to intellectualize this. Most bands used "gore" as a theme because of a loss of what to include in the lyrics, same goes with the overtly "satanic" bands. Although I suppose a minority had some kind of conceptual purpose behind the gore, like Carcass (even though they were coming from a leftist and vegan direction - super homo).

Commerce / Re: HEAVY METAL "has retreated" from its peak
« on: September 24, 2010, 05:08:08 PM »QuoteFor a short period around the turn of the 1990s, however, the genre's compulsive need to outflank itself spiralled into genuine evil. The Californian quartet Slayer coined the loudest, fastest, ugliest sound to date, with one song, Angel of Death, relating the horrors of Josef Mengele's Auschwitz. In Norway, a small network of bands plunged headlong into Satanism, and torched some churches around Oslo. In 1993, Varg Vikernes, aka Burzum, murdered his main rival.
Metal had reached its furthest perimeter, and has since retreated a considerable distance.

Metal / Re: Burzum - Belus
« on: September 24, 2010, 05:05:57 PM »No, and I don't think my post conveys that. This is a thread of extremes. No one can really handle that this is just "decent" or "ok".
I'm not sure I should have bumped this thread at all though. Maybe it's time for us to move on...
In the context of past Burzum it's pretty fucking awfull, just like Anthems is a turd with ITNSE in context.
