Thorns- The demos are classic, the full length has one song that I really like, "World Playground Deciet", but as a whole the full length is pretty worthless.

Moonblood is laughably overrated; that said, the song "I Am All" is pretty good.

It's not nearly as good, IMO.

I really want to hear this stuff, but I can't find the album on DC++. Anyone own it who is willing to rip it for me?

They don't have a full length yet; email him, and he'll send you the promo.

Given that one of those bands has called it quits already, I'd say the first one.

Although, 1995 isn't terribly accurate, either- most of those bands peaked in '91-'93, and all of those bands were on the decline by '95.

That said, I had no idea that Napalm Death had even been active over the last 12 years or so without looking them up.

I've actually never heard either of those.

To Be Remembered is the song I heard, if you want to subject yourself to it.

that's what's always bugged me about the chasm and they're not exactly getting any better about it

Thing is, though, in the past they've been able to use that influence fairly intelligently, similar to the first Unleashed album, or perhaps Varathron.

On this new album, that influence is particularly obnoxious in some of the lead guitar; overall, though, that's not the main problem with the album (that being that they're just rehasing a formula used on previous albums).

Ugh, I heard one song from their debut; avoid these guys at all costs.

I just downloaded the leak- don't waste your time or money.  You've already heard what is by far the best song on the album (Fortress).  The whole album basically mimics the previous one, except it has only a fraction of the spirit.

The Spell of Retribution to be Unleashed on CD and Limited edition Vinyl on November 16th 2004.

There are two mp3s avaliable here http://www.enterthedeathcult.com/UntitledFrameset-3.htm - Fortress is the whole song, Conjuring the New Apocalyps isn't.  Judging from Fortress, this one won't be quite as good as Deathcult was, but better than Conjuration; it's got the more dramatic structuring that Deathcult had, with a riffing style closer to Conjuration.

Really, I see some BM as going both ways as far as "emotional detachment without apathy"- I'd hardly call Burzum emotionally detached, however I'd say that "Under a Funeral Moon" or "Transilvanian Hunger" fit that definition fairly well.

Personally, I would consider BM as music that evokes a world outside of the current order- whether this is a celebration of "evil" such as early Mayhem or Darkthrone's first BM album, or whether it sorrowfully looks on this world in a "what could have been" situation, such as Burzum does, just to name two possible examples.
