In other words, wisdom doesn't stem directly from intelligence but it also isn't possible without it? I just felt depressed after finding that most people, regardless of intellect, mimic their emotional spectrum from hollywood movies, and thought there must be a more comprehensive valuation of the person than IQ alone.

I think the old forum from about 10 years ago was something like this anyway?

Black Sabbath represents the beginning of the transcendental viewpoint which extreme metal would later embrace. The moment of subconscious realization as the first hominid gazed up at the stars.

I used to believe that art is a means of communication, however, the most profound art seems to communicate something that is way beyond artist or artwork.

On some level music can be likened to a means of communication, much like a language consisting of grammatical rules. This is the basic element but of course language varies extensively in its intent and eventual effect. Therefore the music I seek out is mostly in the language of profundity.

Regarding the artist, I think no common criticism sums up his true role more succintly than "too self-conscious". A means of mastering language, himself but devoid of ego.

So the general consensus is that so called EQ is a diversion from the real issue; low IQ on mass (or at the very least, that the two frameworks are somewhat incompatible). I became interested in this after thinking that IQ alone couldn’t accurately define a healthy, functional person in that it couldn’t account for things like courage, practical skills, artistic creativity, or other necessary characteristics. Am I missing something or is IQ a component part of a more holistic approach?

i put on my finest suit
and set off for the journey of my life
into the woods
eight thirty
and i am in the woods
smearing my face and hair
with the foul earth
how did it end up like this
my last day on earth

Quite a problem for me sometimes; how to get motivated and then maintain that level throughout the life-journey.

(and yes I mean that without the use of stimulants, all you psychos).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotional_quotient

Does it have any merit?

Once you establish an understanding of the value of a baseline level of intelligence, is emotional stability and functionality not the next thing that comes to mind?
This would exlude high IQ yet emotionally inept as well as over-emotional types.

The deceptiveness of an album like this is that it almost sounds like the same 2 or 3 songs played over and over if you're not paying close attention.

That would mean like 98% of death metal albums are deceptive.
Sure, but not to the degree of Morbid Visions (in fact I do consider metal to be deceptive in general).  After the 2nd track it sounds like one big song.  Also think about these albums:
Blessed are the Sick
Beyond Sanctorum
North From Here
I would put these in direct contrast to Morbid Vision to see what I'm talking about.

On the other hand, something like The Karelian Isthums would be a pretty good comparison to MV/BD in this sense, but the songs still differentiate themselves more then Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation.

Yes. This approach would emphasize structural development through internal dynamics. Where does Onwards to Golgotha fit in?

Molestation can destroy a child when his/her family is apathetic to it, and the child realizes he is of no worth to them. This could be difficult to overcome in adulthood. A person in this position might have a high IQ, or artistic ability and still be unable to function at an average level.
I think this is bullshit, smart is smart. Childhood trauma might change a persons view of the world or even make them a little neurotic but they will still be just as smart or artistic as they would be if no trauma occured. The only thing that can truly damage a persons intelligence is brain damage, things like child abuse and poverty are just "bumps in the road" so to speak.

No rule without exceptions can apply to most things.

Never mind trying to address the root of a problem. Instead re-label problem as diversity (=good). A great victory for logic.

Agree. It's one reason I can never really get into punk.
But metal done right is a mixture of dissident and transcendental forces.
Exactly what the world needs :)

Never occurred to me. In my innocent mind I guessed it was about doing a hard day of work or something.

Glad that I hardly listen to this album anymore.
