Interzone / Re: Romanticism/Nihilism Compare and Contrast

Nihilism is non-moral realism. You spend some time stripping off all that decrepid, old wallpaper and decide to paint the place white. The ensuring boredom develops into a fertile imagination; romanticism.

I recently switched from strength  training (high weight low reps) to more of a bodybuilding routine (low weight high reps) and it's a nice change of pace.

I read somewhere that regularly changing the amount of weight/reps actually 'shocks' the muscle (memory) and therefore helps it develop. Also, a mixture of mass and lean muscle is closer to nature. Excessive mass actually hinders projection of strength.

Yes, this is true. And it could apply to many other facets of life.

I often wonder if people are naturally hardwired to miss the point.

What did Holst have to say about it btw?

I think we can all agree that hip-hop/rap is in decline even worse than metal is.

This reminded me of a recent Burzum interview where one of his Russian fans asks if he is into Nazi, Pagan, NS rap being released on Fourth Reich records from Siberia.

Possibly the most hilariously depressing realization in the history of metal's decline phase.

The two causes in the article are connected, only the second results in irreversible damage.

Sometimes I think time moves in waves and we must swim against it gently or it will drown us.
Other times I think this is our excuse for being weak swimmers.

It would also stop our favourite bands from selling out.

I am particularly interested in an alternative to achieving some sort of finality as is commonly implied in a ‘desired result’.  This would also exclude the idea of a process outweighing a result because it still aims for finality.

What’s wrong with achieving finality in a desired result? It is achieved only to be replaced by something undesirable further on down the track. The extreme right gives way to the extreme left and so on.

A way out of this would be to continually overcome without viewing life in terms of fixed endpoints. As mentioned, perhaps only rigid self-discipline can make this possible.

There's really no such thing as 'gay' in prison, it's just sex.

Interzone / Re: Listenin' to poop music

Let me clarify, when I say "poop" I mean music thats still music, just poor music. Such as new Morbid Angel. Not "music" thats so shit that it can't even really be called music, such as what you would hear at the mall.

It would have to reach a certain standard of artistic merit to be taken seriously. But when that standard is reached, even an album that fails can still retain some useful ideas. I guess it's up to the listener to take in and reapply such ideas in a way that succeeds.

As I see it, a functional society consists of healthy humans. It works within the forces of nature and brings death upon itself by opposing nature. Therefore, a healthy human seeks to keep society functional.

It is not that a result is achieved in itself, but that a continual process endures from one’s efforts. One might also consider that the process itself works as a result. I struggled to find something this wouldn’t apply to.

Interzone / Re: Alien Invasion: Already here?
« on: October 16, 2012, 07:39:27 PM »
I ask because the only person I know who has taken DMT reported seeing an alien holding a lightsaber who told him he wasn't ready. He now believes that these aliens are coming and has resolved to train with "fire staffs" as they best simulate a light saber and to prepare his body for "mech combat" which I took to mean giant robots. This was supposed to happen in a matter of a few years. Now I'm usually a pretty open minded guy and have read some stuff about the esoteric side of DMT, but this particular fellow crushed the legitimacy of it for me. He used acid and mushrooms prior to this for roughly 2 years. He isn't dumb guy, a bit egotistical and butt end of most jokes, so it's hard to completely write off his experience.

I have two other buddies who have done psychedelics. It's interesting to me that one of them experienced something not unlike Cargests tales, while the other experienced nothing significant but a pleasing body high and a lot to do with lights and colors being much different than usual.

I've drawn similar conclusions. From my own brief experiences and observations, it is fascinating but pointless. The supposed insights gained originate in non-realities which the user then appears unnaturally fixated on (rather insightless really). At this point, everything I need is already contained in reality.

I find inferior music annoying. It wastes my time and makes me feel asthough my mind is rotting.

Why is there no quality-control in death metal any more?

Surely, it's not just because Euronymous died.

Metal / Re: Generic bands that have had one quality composition.

As far as the topic of the thread goes, I'm at a bit of a loss as far as one-hit wonder bands go. I'm definitely a "whole album" type of listener, so pretty much every band I listen to on a regular basis managed to put out at least one overall "good" album.

Agreed, otherwise it can be likened to the pop-music approach of randomly hitting on success as opposed to creating a coherent artisitic statement from one's inner vision. It amounts to nothing. Even a single moment of brilliance is meaningless when it fails to connect with the greater whole.

Consider even the failure of a once great band like Burzum. Unless one is appalled by the idea of distinction, it can't be helped that even the validity of his best works comes into question as an otherwise immortal, untainted legasy is ruined.
