Chasm / The "Busy" Trap

Interesting that most of the user comments to this New York Times article are defensive and negative.
Cue D.R.I.'s "Money Stinks"
Quote
Busyness serves as a kind of existential reassurance, a hedge against emptiness; obviously your life cannot possibly be silly or trivial or meaningless if you are so busy, completely booked, in demand every hour of the day. I can’t help but wonder whether all this histrionic exhaustion isn’t a way of covering up the fact that most of what we do doesn’t matter.

In the 4x7 "Metal Reviews" side column there is a blank space after "0."
Perhaps that blank space could be filled with an "All" hyperlink that lists all the reviews on one page for easier navigation of the review archive.

Metal / Re: WTF happened to Amorphis?
« on: August 27, 2012, 11:11:40 PM »
Privilege of Evil was pretty much their peak. That's the album I always go to when I want to hear something from Amorphis.
They started to get real fruity after the first couple of songs on Tales From The Thousand Lake. The second half of that album is like Iron Maiden trying to play death metal. Just dumb circus music.

Metal / Re: What seperates good metal from the rest?
« on: August 10, 2012, 03:19:30 AM »Or, if it is to refer to "problems of the day", approaching the subject from a metaphorical standpoint definitely makes things more interesting.
Dead Kennedys are one of the best punk bands because they have the ability to criticize society via satire and metaphor. Most punks are just jocks with piercing and tattoos.
It doesn't surprise me that Slayer was into Dead Kennedys.

Metal / Master - "The New Elite"
« on: August 08, 2012, 11:27:50 PM »
This is out to buy in Europe and available to steal on the Internet, but it's not out for sale in America yet.
Anyway, it's pretty ****ing punishing musically. The vocals are the only real let down. I'm not digging the new "Macho Man Randy Savage" vocal style. Master continues to release excellent old style death metal records.

Man, Into The Autumn Shade has been hard as hell to find for years now.
May have to get this just for that.

I heard that the discs are actually CD-Rs instead of being factory pressed CDs.
I wonder how well these CDs will hold up physically over time since CD-Rs decay at a fast rate.

Good list. Though I would take Spastic Ink's "Ink Complete" over anything else Ron Jarzombek's done.

Summoning would probably be the best at it.
I'm also fond of Limbonic Art's "The Moon In The Scorpio."

I saw these guys live with Master a few years back.
They were energetic and their songs were fairly straightforward.
I wouldn't mind seeing them live again, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

« on: April 01, 2012, 05:32:57 PM »I'm not familiar, is FYE one of those Hot Topic type stores or something?
Pretty much. It's an overpriced shopping mall CD/DVD chain you see everywhere in America.

The Scarlatti sonatas are a must for anyone who enjoys the harpsichord. They just don't sound right on a piano.

They sell Burzum albums in FYE now so he can't be doing too bad.

Burzum has become the George Lucas of black metal.
