Deathspell Omega has to be some of the most noodly, directionless cut and paste hogwash ive ever had the displeasure to hear.

the thing which most draws me to Averse Sefira (on Battles Clarion), is their guitar parts. something about them just sounds so perverse, and evil. the way that they clash with the blasting drums invokes the image of an apocalyptic end. really, i dont see how people could find this band boring.

So, to sum it up, hipsters are fans who like something  (or pretend to) to boost their self-esteem?

yes. they have no identity of their own, or are too afraid to show their true colors. so they latch onto trends to give themselves some meaning.

The term "hipster" is fucking stupid. I personally blame onan for the propagation of its usage here.

But that Cryptopsy bit is very accurate. The new album proves fans of that band don't even know why they listen to music or what they even truly like. The newest album is really no different musically than any other Crypto album since NSV, but the entire metal scene has disowned it thanks only to the presence of clean alternative rock vocals. If the entire album sounded like the first two or three songs all the way through, it would be another metal archives classic.

f you can listen to Once Was Not, and then the new album, and still tell me that they sound similar....then i really wont know what to say.

the Mike DiSalvo years were dismal, but i give the band credit for attempting to further themselves after the release of None So Vile. occasional moments (minus DiSalvo's terrible excuse for vocals) on the two albums were interesting.

honestly, i dont know what kind of shit you have clogging up your ears. the new Cryptopsy album is mall/deathcore to the bone. adding in random segments of clean vocals/guitars, an occasional keyboard bit, and some metalcore loser who sounds like hes getting fingered by an orangutan does not make you progressive.

it makes you fucking trendy garbage. and that is what the new Cryptopsy album is. trendy garbage.

Reject society's norms, and conform to what we think. yep, i dont see the irony there at all.

This is true, but HA is an actual thematic album while RiB is a collection of SONGS THAT ROCK!!!

Who/what exactly were Slayer trying to impress/outdo with the speedfest, RiB? Perhaps the main aesthetic progenitors' response to embryonic DM?

maybe Possessed. or Exodus. or Razor. those are the fastest bands i can think of during that period.

they may have just been thinking "wow hell awaits was fast. lets see if we can go faster!"

Are there many obese death metal musicians? I remember the guys from Crowbar being rather large...

Crowbar isnt death metal? at least i thought they werent.

and yeah, there are a fair amount of portly DM musicians.

People are to symbols like bluejays are to shiny objects.

the origin of 4/20 was apparently from some kids in a high school in California. they would gather at around 4:20 every day to smoke weed. obviously, it caught on, though i have no idea why and how it was turned into a particular day of the year.

last.fm is socially oriented only if you make it to be so.

its still a good tool for finding music.

I agree that Nox is one of the few decent things going on in metal these days. Their biggest flaw comes when their songwriting devolves into riff salad.

im noticing this as i listen on their myspace. interesting delivery, could be worth my time. ill delve into them a little deeper.
