What is black metal death metal etc...?

The constituents define the genre.

e.g. 'swan' used to only point to a white bird, with all of its other requisite features that made it a swan. Then Euro folk came to Australia and found black birds, the same in pretty much every other manner except colour to swans. How did they know to call it a swan? The category swan had to be altered.

I never understood all the fuss about genre. I also never understood how people didn't get the different aesthic aims of the bands that constitute them: even the superficial things (i.e. those which we recognise do not constitute genre defining characteristics) such as cookie monster vocals or monochromatic artwork, are often consistently applied to their respective genres anyway.

ChristineDelusion, I'd like to hear more of your thoughts as a self-proclaimed visitor.
