The DLA "scene": users' own compositions

Have you recorded any more for Baeldaeg? I'd love to get my hands on more than two tracks.

Yes, more is recorded, but it all needs to be rerecorded before it's released.

Daghkagg - Visions of Eternal Doom (Demo)

1.  Harvested Souls of the Master - 3:41
2.  The Infernal Grace - 6:18
3.  Salomon's Gate (Beherit Cover) - 3:30

I'm not quite sure what to call this, but it definitely falls into the "Black/Death" spectrum of things.  This demo used to have 5 tracks (was originally intended to have 6, but my recording equipment failed before I could finish track 5), but 3 and 4 simply weren't as good as 1, 2, and the Beherit cover, so I scrapped them, with the intention of using the best riffs to write new material for this project.  This is the "streamlined" version of the demo which I sent out to labels etc.

Beherit/Blasphemy and Infester are probably the most recognisable influences, in terms of the atmosphere/essence (rather than melodic sense/composition).  I want to invoke Lovecraftian images of baleful infinity, under the banner of the hellish/demonic/Satanic forces of reality, though not necessarily from a "human" perspective (i.e. like the aforementioned bands, the perspective is often one of the Tormentor, rather than the tormented).  An intelligence which we are incapable of understanding committing acts which we deem evil for a goal which is totally obscure to us.

I'd really love to rerecord these and include the final track, the epic piece that binds all previous themes together while hinting at an impending, timeless suffering.  It's just incomplete without that track, given the "Black Metal" structure of the release as a whole (as you should probably expect from me by now).  Still, this is a good taster.

Criticism is requested, if anyone has the time.

When one of your own does something good, support it as if it was your blood.

Don't be like most scenes, which crush anyone who rises above.

I'm just linking this to keep it in the thread; I haven't heard it yet.

Knowing how unfriendly this place generally is towards "atonal" music and "modern-classical" as a scene, I've held off on this for a while.

I'm a composer. You can listen to music I've written in a few places online:

Reverbnation:

My website will also be up within a few months.

Most of the material is heavily influenced by death and black metal music, as well as ambient, and discussions on aesthetics that I've had on these boards. I thought you all might be interested in it for these reasons, even if you don't like the sounds. But, I do hope you like it! I enjoy getting feedback, critical or otherwise, either in a post or through private contact.

Coincidentally, this is my last post on these forums. I've been around a long time, but it's time for me to move on. I've truly valued many of the discussions I've had here, and have met a few good friends through the boards, and by working with some of you individually on projects. Good luck to you all.

That would be unfortunate Goluf, your posts are insightful and learned without exception. I hope you'll find the time for additional contribution, even if it is not very often.

Edit: Vidar's Reflecting Pond was very enjoyable. Amorea Tir will take more time digest but was also enjoyable (in parts; immensely so). Morning Soul I must admit to not being able to appreciate at all. My neanderthal mind can only think of one criticism there; poor cat.

I've enjoyed reading your posts on music, Goluf. Good luck. I must profess that I find it difficult to grasp the aesthetic qualities of the first two pieces, the intellectual side seems to me to dominate, as in much of modernist art. I like Vidar's Reflecting Pond which seems to me to be not as 'random'.

My own band is not metal nor classical, but psychedelic prog or 'Space rock'. I would welcome the perspective of metal heads!

Well good luck, but I hope you do stick around or come back under a pseudonym or something.  You've had a slew of posts lately that shed a lot of light on metal for me.  So thank you for that, and I do hope to hear from you in the future.

Today I am inspired to outline my death metal project so I can creat a booklet for it. As well, I am a lover of ambient music, and I remember listening to KCUF's  Headspace . The opening track by Thule gave me an ideal that ambient music can be done by guitar. Mind you I have not sought any other forms of ambient music like this. I am curious to know where I can find Thule.

It is short and trust me I can make this a long endeavor, but this gives you an ideal of what I am doing.

Wow, that sounds absolutely wonderful. I kept wishing it was less ambient and more musical, but that's personal preference.

Saw this on deathmetal.org, the opening 32 seconds might be of some interest to you. It was okay death metal otherwise.

Edit: I was rummaging through your account. What's that "To seek" song? Almost reminded me of Lubricant with its insistence on a rock rhythm.

That is one of my favorite creations and the use of three guitars at one point is what I am know to do!

Creative stuff! If you'll accept a criticism, it's too nice and bouncy and consistent to have any major impact despite excellent ideas. I've also found metal songwriting (and lyrics) to be powerful when it describe experiences and not events; if that makes any sense. It is mischaracterized as withdrawn music. No matter what you are going for in aesthetic, a soundtrack approach is good in metal imo.
