Desperation group ethics

Desperation group ethics

Overcrowding causing scarcity plus multiethnic composition plus ingroup loyalty instincts:

Quote
From April to July 1994, 800,000 Tutsis were exterminated by their Hutu neighbors, around 3/4ths of the Tutsi population of Rwanda.

It was the largest mass murder in the shortest period of time in world history. 20 percent of Rwanda’s population was wiped out before the RPF rebels broke the ceasefire and overran the country in July.

The whole Hutu population was mobilized to participate in the genocide by the Interahamwe militias. Doctors and nurses killed their patients. Husbands killed their Tutsi wives and children. Hutu pastors even participated in the extermination of their Tutsi congregations.

Furthermore:

(8) Italy and Belgium sent troops to evacuate their own citizens, but left the Tutsi to die.

Problem solved all around, sadly. <3 (love heart, not groin symbol)

The thought of how Rwanda happened and how easily people can be manipulated makes me want to rip my hair out.
