Those attending could witness the birth of a right-wing movement, the European Defence League – and the beginning of a dangerous new phase in extremist politics.

Representatives from defence leagues in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the USA, Italy, Poland and Finland are due to attend, along with the anti-Muslim groups Stop Islamisation of Europe, Stop Islamisation of the World and the far-right European Freedom Initiative. It is feared the new umbrella organisation could co-ordinate right-wing activities across Europe while politicising and unifying disparate groups. The idea, which is being championed by the English Defence League (EDL), could be modelled on the European Union – with delegates from participating countries meeting regularly.

As a man of Greek descent, I have to agree. The Greeks were once the proudest civilization on this planet. Now look at them. It's like my (Greek immigrant) father used to say - "they invented philosophy, they invented mathematics, they came up with democracy, and then about 2000 years of nothing."

One of their most major problems is an early retirement age. 58. We already have problems here in the USA with retirees; imagine how much MORE there are over there.

Immigrants do not necessarily do this. Also, citizens of a country don't necessarily contribute positive things to said country. You've jumped to a pretty fallacious conclusion; taking one possible implication and going buck wild with it.

Note that I do not disagree with your statement itself, of course unproductive/counterproductive people are worthless.

The Golden Dawn, as of now at least, is undoubtedly one of the biggest embarrassments of the nation, along with nincompoop teenage/young adult Anarchists.
Moronic, meaningless violence and hooliganism, Illogical racism, Nazi sympathising, directionlessness. Despite what nonsense they might preach, they have no actual program, and they ponder only to sections of the block-headed lower classes, especially those with fetishes for flashy rallies, slogans and street fights. In essence they're just reactionary, and like the NSDAP, what prosperity they have achieved is solely due to the damaged economy.

Unfortunately, the Dawn is the only actual representative of a nationalistic right-wing "ideology" in the state currently, and thus they are to blame for the thoroughly incorrect and ill-founded idea most Greeks have about such concepts as Nationalism.

Only around 7% of the Greek population is of non-Greek descent, and 1/3-1/2 of these are natives of other EU countries (i.e. as productive or more productive than Greeks themselves).  Immigration just doesn't play a statistically significant role Greek life or the problems faced by Greek society.  The issues Greece must overcome are homegrown, and anyone trying to pin these problems on other demographic groups is selling something.

You sell the Nazis short.  They were politically successful in the 1930s largely because the NSDAP and the NSDAP alone had coherent and comprehensive solutions to the two most important problems facing Germany: massive economic dysfunction and disastrous strategic weakness in the face of the rising power of Stalinist Russia.  That they wrapped it all in confidence-building spectacle and effective sloganeering is neither here nor there.  They offered what modern far-right parties never seem to get around to: an actual program of policies designed to achieve something meaningful.

The argument being advanced by the Golden Dawn is that closing Greece's borders to immigration will have a measurable economic impact and help alleviate the debt crisis, yet this addresses exactly none of the real problems Greece actually faces.  This isn't a solution: it's soccer hooliganism masquerading as a political stance.
