burzum is relative to people who value spirit in music.
To what extent is art spirit/feeling?
See this thread: http://bbs.anus.com/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=001883
and a specific spirit at that.
That the spirit is specific is irrelavant--it's still spirit. I wasn't talking about specifics.
the relativism/universalism dichotomy is a distraction as it it far from absolute.
What is a dichotomy?
Did I really present one?
No. In fact, the discussion of relativism and universality presupposes the lack of such a dichotomy; my entire conceptual argument is dependent upon the non-existence of said dichotomy.
Move past the barriers of language.
It is your subjective opinion, your way perception. Some other person will not "find" those feelings in his music
One does not ask a blind man his opinion on a painting.
Those who disagree with me are deaf. There is no "subjectivity" (in the sense you use the term), but a relative (look up the difference between "subjective" and "relative") difference in perception and understanding.
That an idiot lacks comprehension does not mean a genius is wrong--even when it comes to subjective things.
And art IS subjective, but that just means it is interpreted through the subject, rather than "objectively." Who could imagine sterile, objective art?
This in no way precludes universality, however.
