UNRELEASED DCD TRACK NOW AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD
A Rare Dead Can Dance track is now available for free download by subscribing to http://www.brendan-perry.com/

'A Means of Escape' was the first professional studio recording by Dead Can Dance featuring the original line-up of Brendan Perry (Vocals & Electric Guitar), Lisa Gerrard (Pearl Syncussion), Paul Erikson (Bass Guitar) and Simon Monroe (Drums).

Recorded in early 1982 by the Australian producer, Chris Thompson at Richmond Recorders, Melbourne it captures the early Joy Division inspired wall of sound that became DCD's sonic trademark in the early eighties.

The file is a high quality mp3 - 320kps

Hope you enjoy this rare gem from the DCD archives.

I never really was interested in early Dead Can Dance. Within the Realm of a Dying Sun is where they achieved greatness.

That album and "Spleen and Ideal" are their finest hour, for sure.

I think one of their best songs, though, is "Severance" from "The Serpents Egg" CD. Too bad the rest of that album is just a bunch of tribal wailing nonsense that'd fit in well with a Discovery Channel documentary.

I agree that their second and third albums are superior, however I've always felt that "The Serpent's Egg" would be in the running for their best work if not for the last 2 or 3 tracks.  "Severance" is the obvious highlight, but the rest of the material is quite strong except for the filler at the end.
"Love thy neighbour" is a fucking joke, for few are worthy of my love.

More so "Mother Tongue" and "Echolalia" than "Ulysses". The first 2/3 of the album is, I'd agree, very good though. They were never quite able to match that label of quality (with any consistency, anyway) after that point. It's a bit interesting how the slow decline in their musical quality seems to parallel the slow decline of Brendan and Lisa's relationship...I believe it was around this time and the time and around Aion that the two began to split apart a bit more artistically. I'd say the entire DCD discography deserves some attention, though.

Are we forgetting that 'The Host of Seraphim' is on that album?! As much as I cringe when it's the soundtrack to some television or movie commercial, that song is the crown jewel of their entire discography. And if you like this style moreso than the 'tribal wailing' of Lisa Gerrard, then I'd suggest the music of Arcana.
