Houston, TX leading old school revival?

Houston, TX leading old school revival?

This town is a lot of things -- like LA, a big flat collection of suburbs interspersed with industrial areas, sitting on top of a big fat ghetto -- but it also appears to the the site of a renewal of the old school underground metal tradition. We all know that many legendary metal musicians came from here, and it had its favorite bands like DRI and dead horse, but now it's a new generation, and they're taking the old school fanatics by storm.

- Imprecation

Like early Slayer crossed over with Morbid Angel and Incantation, but has a ritualistic development all its own.

- Cosmic Atrophy

Demilich, Timeghoul, early Incantation and fellow Texans Infinite Singularity woven into a smooth sheaf.

- Blaspherian

First album Incantation meets Havohej and Mortem. Thunderous nerve energy.

- War Master

Old Bolt Thrower done in the style of early Bolt Thrower; simple and gratifying.

- Bahimiron

Like early Gorgoroth crossed with Possessed.

After years of putting up with the trend of mixing punk and rock into music that was random, not majestic like the old school death and black metal, our community is pitching out the failed and returning to what always delivered.
