The confusion over Averse Sefira and Anorexia Nervosa made my day.

Not only do they play completely different styles of black metal (with Anorexia Nervosa barely qualifying) but their lyrical content is vastly different as well. Anorexia Nervosa has taken a turn towards doing the kind of religious backflips that you see in Blut Aus Nord or Deathspell Omega lyrics. They're not quite at the stage of "Satan is the way to God", but give them enough time and I think they'll get there. All those French bands seem to be going down that path.

I only posted the AN video because they're a guilty pleasure of mine and it seemed a good segue into my battle ritual spiel.

Hm... I'm going to follow form for this thread and post another ridiculous video that somehow signals misunderstanding of the black metal aesthetic by outsiders or even the bands themselves.

I didn't think the video was particularly ridiculous (ok maybe the Boa and the woman).  At least it doesn't compare to Cradle of Filth (musically it's even tolerable but boring while CoF is really annoying.)

I think I'd rather listen to CoF.

I think I'd rather be exposted to CoF than that too. It's amazing how music that is supposed to be so confronting and passionate can simultaneously sterile entirely.

Then again, maybe it's good to see/hear such stuff very occasionally just to remind youself that you aren't a fucking fool. Petty, I know, but perhaps functional.

Actually, I thought it was kind of cool. People really, really into the music and completely ignorant of image. As long as they keep it honest and don't try to be a band if they have nothing real to contribute, and do the best they can to make art and not crap, it's pretty cool.

Are you kidding? While the rest of the band may just as well be into the music, the singer is a stoned alien that fails to show any emotion - most likely a syndrome of the fact that there is no emotion to show in the first place.

I do see your point though. It's refreshing to see someone just playing Burzum without trying to be 'evil' or whatever. The motive is not ego drama, but rather just sheer joy from the spirit of the music.

Except for the singer. God only knows what his motive is
