I'll skip over the things I think are garbage (Radiohead, Xasthur, Cannibal Corpse, Leviathan, DSO), and move on to what should be addressed.

Hate Eternal? I really think that band is the epitome of what is wrong with death metal today.

Nile's "Ithyphallic" was their worst one yet. The songs drag, the vocals are one dimensional, and the whole gimmick is just overplayed. I'd much rather take "In Their Darkened Shrines" or BSOV, as you mentioned.

I agree with you on "Monotheist", not the greatest of works by Celtic Frost but extremely ambitious and inspiring in the least.

I thought "Ordo Ad Chao" was pretty neat, despite an overall lack of memorability. GDOW was audial torture, fit for tormenting prisoners of war to cull information from them. Send it to Guantanamo!

I think Krisiun has an overall solid discography up until and including "Works Of Carnage". Nothing mind blowing really, but B grade death metal, worth a listen.

Also, I'd qualify everything I've heard by The Chasm as great, but most of what I have heard has been post 2000 material.
No.

Having reviewed the thread, baby Jesus is most definitely weeping at this point.

Stargazer- The scream that tore the sky

I just picked this up, its from 2005  (originally recorded in 2002) and seems quite promising so far.

Besides Stargazer, I'm being very impressed by the latest albums from Nazxul and Midnight Odyssey from Australia.

"Muspellz Synir" by Nåstrond was probably the best album from Sweden this decade. From Finland, maybe Ride For Revenge's "The King of Snakes" or Uncreation's Dawn's "Death's Tyranny".

I have to agree with Immolation, The Chasm and Nile. We all have our own favorite album picks, but that just confirms the overall heaviness of their respective discographies.

US black metal also had hidden gems amidst the hipster wave, through Krieg/N.I.L., Black Funeral, Negative Plane, and many more.
