Greetings,

Thanks for your note; we authorized putting those MP3 files online ourselves.
We appreciate your interest and of course, if you want to link to the review,
that would be a big help as well.

As you know, ANUS.com has been around for a long time -- since 1996, with
web content going back to 1992 and FTP/ASCII content going back to 1988. We've
covered all the major bands and tons of CM releases. It's always nice to get
notice from the labels and bands we feel we help by offering honest,
experienced
opinions.

Please contact me further if I can be of any help.

cheers

You'd think labels would be more supportive of those who promote the
quality releases that on rare occasions get signed by larger labels.
I hear even certain European labels take a break from nu-metal and
effete powermetal bands to dig up a few treatures.

I was thinking of adding a "and write more interesting veiled threats"
clause to the petition, but I figure no one else would get it.

I know. Since 1996 it has been a void for me. I just remembered the first
rap-metal band CM signed: "Stuck Mojo." That seems like forever ago. What
a doofus trend that ended up being... but when you market to doofuses, some
one else is gonna out-doofus you.

The Celtic Frost page is getting a ton of visitors. It doesn't hurt that
we put up the reviews of the middle albums alongside their older works,
and for once in the history of writing about metal, gave an
unpolarized view...
most people are either "It rocks!!1!" or "Fucken sellout, it sucks!!1!" which
is really stupid.

I wonder how many other metal writers get paid to write at day jobs outside
the entertainment industry. My guess: 2, at most.

Some of the best stuff put out recently has been older demos:
http://www.cursedproductions.com/catalog/display_product.phtml?prodid=9
http://www.threeman.net/catalogue.php

It's not like we're helpless against this wave of massive mediocrity as
those who promote metal. We've got to strike back with what we've got
and not give in to the crap, or rock and emo will assimilate metal and
then labels like Century Media will be forced to compete out of their niche
and lose.

No response from those who are upset over our MP3s... I wonder why? I met
Heather back in 2002 or so and she seemed alright. Never heard of this Hinkel
guy. Maybe he's an enforcer?

I was gonna go later. They're having it here in a warehouse someone dropped
docs on and got the papers. Good for another few weeks, so we're trying to
burn it out slowly. My neighbor just grew a grip of mushrooms, so I'm going
to bring those and a flintlock for the midnight firearms rally.

We got a pretty cool setup here in H-town. Some x-HAQR folk and I are meeting
Friday night to cause problems, and Saturday, I might be meeting a man about
some oregano, basil and piping. Then Sunday is touch football and prepare
for the coming political riots on Monday.

Listening to Hammerheart now. This was really the best of his post-UTSOTBM
work.

Stuck Mojo! I'd forgotten about them. Wasn't that the promo that
didn't get sold out of the 25c bin at the radio station sale?

http://www.centurymedia.net/bands/Stuck_Mojo.htm

Yep, that's them. Rap/metal. Now called "nu-metal" to properly
emphasize its failure as metal music.

Metal lost its way, so everyone tried to do what was popular, but in
doing so, they cut the balls of metal and made it just another rock
genre. Like what happened to Slayer. They weren't able to do their
older style, bored of it or whatever, so the label tells them that if
they'll do a nu-metal album, it'll be like their old albums + a brand
new nu-metal audience. It didn't work out that way. They lost the old
audience who were immediately like, WTF who cares, and the new kids
have the attention span of gnats so you have to spend $$$ to get them
to buy Slayer albums. If they'd done something as good as their older
stuff, people would automatically go buy Slayer albums when they
became available, as was the practice up through "Seasons..."

I'm sure Stuck Mojo are in line for a Nobel Prize in music or
something. Fucking genius!

LOL .. yea man ever since Mike started mixing those estrogen hormone
pills  with pcp he's been pretty crazy. He wants me to try them too,
and after  this it sounds like it just might be worth it! He says you
can always stop  and not go through with the surgery so what's the
harm right? Actually  I've always had a thing for transvestities but
never really thought of  what it would be like to make the switch. So
anyway, if you guys wanna  meet up later at Nullklub I'll be at a
table in the back where it's nice  and dark... Oh yea and don't
forget to bring those goatskin condoms for  all the pussies who
aren't man enough to go bareback.
peace out my african-americans!

I'm e-ing in from teh hospital now... yeah, free wi-fi (lol!). They're banned on slashdot now because I posted something really nasty about one piece of crappy software. I guess it was the 400k of obscenities that I pasted into the post that really did it... anyway, we're waiting for Vivek. We were gonna go to the beach bonfire and get really ripped, but before he could drive Viv (pronounced "weev") needed a shot of ketamine, so we did it. I guess they got the dilution ratio WRONG because his eyes rolled up into his head faster than normal, so I was like, pull it out, pullit out! but he collapsed anyway. While we were here his girlfriend hooked up with the cute ambulance driver in the elevator... I get a shot at him next, of course.

The other thing that was great was Max taking oxycontin and candyflipping at the same time. Somewhere in there, he ate a bunch of bran because it's all we had in the kitchen and ended up shitting all over the ambulance. They're saying they're gonna charge him to clean it because it's almost completely destroyed.

I've got a hearing monday, but I got insurance so I think I can get a kwalitee lawyer... peace out dawg.

pps - That girl I met at Nullklub turned out to be a raging slut. I got her to blow me while we were waiting in line for the drive-thru... I'd forgotten about the asparagus I ate for lunch. So it feels really good, we're both on some pills we got from Marco the Beverly Hills connection, and at the right moment she strokes my leg and it reminds me of that old babysitter, the one who was nice to me... I don't know what happened but I blew without any warning, and because of the tight quarters and sheer lust I was thrusting forward. Her eyes watered, she gagged, and then barfed all over the gearshift, the entire car dripping in sperm and digestive fluid, but it was a rental so I didn't care. Fuck yeah! Anyway my secret is that I could have pulled back but I wanted to see her choke. I'm fucking sick and broken and there'll be no release until death.

"Please kindly STFU and get back to filing your nails and coming up with trendy slogans to please the kiddies."

Great stuff. It's kind of hard to follow who is saying what after a while though.

No kidding!

Century Media, like many labels, once signed metal bands that were more than mere entertainment; they were artistic music groups that attempted to communicate truths of real meaning to those living and listening in our time.

Following the rise of Century Media to corporate status, the label has increasingly begun signing bands for their popularity and consequently, the quality of new music from the label has declined and nu-metal, emo-influenced metal has become the norm.

We beseech Century Media to realize that in the long term, signing quality metal will help them cultivate a dedicated and distinct audience and stand them in better economic health than being one more label putting out a steady stream of soulless acts that are a mishmash of metal, hardcore, rap and rock and sell _at first_ but fade quickly in popularity because they are recombinant and interchangeable.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned

http://www.petitiononline.com/cent666/petition.html

CM wrote in wondering about some MP3 samples on the web site, so Arminass and I decided to have some fun. Be polite. Who knows? Maybe they'll even wake up and see that what I say is true, and truth about their financial futures.

What real metal is, is subjective. And like it or not, signing crappy bands for the money will never stop. This is called capitalism. I'm sure the people at CM have families to feed and rent to pay and that dosen't get done selling only black metal or whatever. Why can't you go to another record company for good music anyway? Maybe you want 'true' bands to have the distro that CM has? Well maybe you should be petitioning the fact that other 'true' lables need better distro. Something like "Warner and Sony should pick up Willow tip and Season of mist"

Century Media has been a joke for many years now. Metal Blade part 45.

Buying any metal outside of second hand is bad for metal, especially from a label as infamous as CM.
Its not like they have anything good anyway, outside of Incantation, Immolation and a few others.

Stop wasting your time.

Re: Petition to Century Media
May 19, 2006, 01:00:43 PM
Fuck capitalism...

Why did they start this label in the first place? I bet it wasn't for capitalistic reasons...no one really starts an extreme metal label to get rich! I think the old folks at CM have lost sight of why they're doing what they do.

Yeah, I'll sign too!

At one point Grave, Asphyx, Morgoth, and Unleashed were newly-signed bands for this label. The same letter could be written to RoadRunner, Nuclear Blast, and Earache, for they've all followed the same course.

Re: Petition to Century Media

Tell me, does anyone know how much Century Media bribed Cryptopsy to stay with them?  No one seems to have notice how much they were complaining about CM being exploitive and cheap, before immediately releasing 'Once Was Not' with them and shuffling on through.

Maybe no one else wanted Cryptopsy...

That's doubtful. Their at least one of the top five most popular death metal acts now. Century Media had more money to throw at them, with promises to do better. That's all.

Re: Petition to Century Media

It seems that at least half of Cryptopsy's current fanbase was built up between the release of '...And Then You'll Beg' and 'Once Was Not'.  Either impressive hype or a mass discovery.
