I don't think Incantation are playing mass-appeal death metal, they're just playing death metal that hovers around low B/high C grade. For their last 3-4 albums. In comparison to their first 2 full lengths, or Diabolical Conquest, C grade material doesn't cut it.

I agree. It's easy enough to get off-track without selling out. In particular, they're truer to style than, say, Immolation which has drifted off course as well.

precisely.  and the essence of this thread seems to be a misinterpretation of quality deterioration as "selling out".  this is a particularly acute phenomenon within the metal community.  if someone like David Bowie puts out a new record (which will almost certainly be shit as that's been his exclusive currency since the 1980s), the backlash will center on how he's overstayed his welcome.  if a band like Immolation releases a lackluster album, a portion of the metal community will talk about them as if they signed a deal with Def Jam.

The premise of this thread is offensive. I won't lose sleep if you don't care for later Incantation, opting to stick with their essentials, but claims of selling out are guided by either a misunderstanding of the band and ignorance to their actual works, or just getting off on the act of pretentious finger wagging.
